  2. Dee made a thread just for this Thanksgiving with all its trimmings and I pulled up last years. TDKers have a tendency to like to share recipes and menus. I have no idea what I am going to do this year. Other than make sure to brine my turkey--thank you Instinct! It really makes the turkey tender and juicy, but the best part is the smell in the house!

    Salads

Sure there'll be other things as well, but this is what she told me we're having. I love Thanksgiving food!

  9. I made a combo with whipped potatoes and cauliflower. It was a HUGE hit taste-wise, however, my family did not appreciate the um, well, after effects of the cauliflower. This year if I make it I have to bring Beano for everyone...LOL.

  10. We will be in Miami at Emeril's for Thanksgiving this year so I have no ideal what Emeril fixes! GD, you can make the stuffing and bring it to your friends! I will miss having corn pudding though. My recipe is in the other Thanksgiving thread if anyone wants to give it a go.

  13. I'm working on Thanksgiving, and the company always provides a typical Thanksgiving meal. I'm not sure what Mr. K is doing that night; we have a bunch of family coming over, though, which is what matters.

  14. Same here, AV...and on my bum knees...but it is all worth it...and we love leftovers!

  15. I love stuffing, too! I love everything except the turkey. Yep, I've having my usual vegetarian Thanksgiving, but haven't yet decided on the main course. We're still talking about the year I made Tofurkey--horrible stuff, which reminded me of foam rubber!!!

  16. Ugh, don't go there with Tofurkey...don't even call it Turkey!!!!

  21. A second friend invited me to her house today for Thanksgiving dinner - and she promises stuffing!
I'd rather go to her house than the stuffing-free house (not just because of the lack of stuffing) so now I need a way to get out of going to the first house. Arrrgh!

  25. I wish we had thanksgiving here! All this food sounds lovely!! I might have to have an honorary Thanksgiving for TDK'ers!!
What other traditions do you have at this time? Do you have decorations up?

  26. And what is green bean casserole? can someone post a recipe? As a veggie that sounds really appealing!

Posted 2 years ago by Pika #

  27. Pika - this is how I make it

    Green Bean Casserole:

1 lb. fresh green beans washed, cut in 1" pieces
    1 ham hoc
    1 small vidalia onion
    1 bunch fresh thyme
    chicken boullion cubes
    10-15 fresh mushrooms chopped
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
    1/2 cup milk
    1 can french fried onions

In a pot, boil the ham hoc with the fresh thyme, 2 chicken boullion cubes and 6 cups of water for about an hour (your making a stock)
Then cook the green beans in the stock until they're tender (about 30 min.) Drain them.
In a large mixing bowl, mix the beans with the onion (diced) and mushrooms, the cans of soup, and milk. Pour into a greased casserole dish and bake for about 40 min. at 350. Pull out of the oven and top with the french fried onions and then bake for about 10-15 more min. until they are crispy. SERVE & ENJOY!!!!

  30. Pika: Here is the recipe for the classic green been casserole that Campbell's started decades ago. Many people, like AV, jazz it up a bit.
