SERIOUS Question Here!

(10 posts)
  1. All my kits are starting to hate me. I have a major problem right now w/static electricity. Poor kitties are getting shocked left & right. They're now starting to back away from me when I go to pet them & I don't blame them. I don't know what I can do to stop it. I've even gone to the extent of spraying myself down & parts of the carpet w/anti-static spray & it doesn't seem to help for more than a couple pets & then out comes the lightning bolts again. I use a liquid water softener in the wash cycle but no dryer towels (can't afford both). Anyone have any ideas for me before the cats all start packing their kitty bags?

When I read the article, it seemed to me that dryer sheets seem to be the best solution. I prefer to use the liquid softner as well, but for this time of year I do use dryer sheets.

  3. The problem may be the dry winter air. You might want to try running a humidifier in your house. That will stop the zaps. Dry air can also cause headaches.

  4. SM...thanks for the link. I've even rubbed down the bedding w/dryer towels & it the static just seems to sit there laughing & waiting for that next moment to zap me or the kits. lol.
Would a humidifier work? I know I had one at one time but,not sure if that went to Goodwill w/alot of other things when I started packing my things up here. And then I was thinking of putting a watered down version of my liquid fabric softener in a spray bottle & just spraying everything down. I'm not sure if that would be healthy for the kits tho since they're all over everything. :)

  5. Hahaha...Ginger,you posted before I typed out mine. I've been dealing w/a headache off & on for the last week & I know barometer changes in the weather can cause those headaches. I guess I'll see if I still have my humidifier & try it. If I don't still have it,would boiling water on the stove work in the same sense?

  8. Susie, sometimes certain shoes I wear cause a lot of static electricity. Have you been wearing a different pair of shoes lately?

  10. GD...hahaha...I've been wearing my toggle slippers everywhere but into town. If I'm not in them,I'm in my socks. I'm sure it's not helping the situation.
Thanks for the tips...I love the smell of oranges & I put cinnamon in my coffee every morning. :)
