Orphaned 3-week-old kitten stole our hearts

  1. Hello everyone :)

This looked like a friendly, helpful group of people so I thought I'd join in and introduce myself. My husband brought home a tiny ball of fluff that he found outside of an auto parts store. This little girl, all thirteen ounces of her, had summoned the strength to step out of the bushes and shiver on the cold cement of the parking lot. The big, burly mechanics helped my tender-hearted husband search the area around the shop for her mommy or siblings; to no avail.

So, he brought her home to me and our four children and two dogs. That was four weeks ago and we just can't imagine life without her now! The first week was tough as the vet warned us she was very dehydrated and needed to be bottle fed every 3-4 hours round the clock. We shouldered the responsibilities together, Dan and I.

There is nothing more adorable than to see a half-asleep, six-foot tall, strong man holding a tiny one pound ball of fur on his tummy trying to get more of the KMR milk on her little tongue than on the make-shift burp cloth at 3am. :)

Anyway, though we weren't planning to add any more fur-children to our already full home, little Zuzu made herself room in our hearts.

Glad to find a place to share her because our entire family thinks we're crazy for keeping the little thing. I know you all will completely understand how it feels to be smitten by a tiny abandoned kitten.

    hugs,
    Karen

  7. Welcome to TDK! It doesn't take long before they are members of the family! I have 5 in my crew and love them all. 3 dogs, Lissy a wire-haired dachshund, Kasey a border collie/australian shepard mix, and Sherlock a basset hound. Then my little girl Rumpleteaser, (Teaser for short)a charcoal gray with black stripes and my little tuxie boy Deuteronomy (Deuter Bug for short). I can't wait to hear more about your crew! Please join a chat or night shift anytime and share a story or two!

  8. Welcome to TDK, Karen! What a wonderful story of little Zuzu to begin the Christmas season! And of course, we all understand what it is to be totally won over by a tiny furball.

I can't wait to see pictures of your new baby!

  9. *big smiles* Hi Karen! What a lovely story of how little Zuzu came to join your family. The image you paint of big Dan with that little one on his chest is sweet. We came to adopt 4 young feral kittens ourselves a couple of years back when a mama meezer started flirting her way into my boyfriend's heart. Soon after we discovered a family of four in our wood shed out back. Mama disappeared a few months later but we've kept and cared for all four of the kits since. If you click on my avatar you'll find my catster page where my little ones are. Welcome to TDK LZ!!

  12. KraziKat, ButterflyJam, Lainey, Dee, GreatDane, SoxsMom, WillowandWindisMom, KarenOpa, JCat, Sheba's Mom, and anyone else who took the time to read my little intro,

Thanks so much for the kind welcome! Everyone has such adorable fur children here. I'm thankful to find a room full of other people who love animals as much as I do :) I've been oohh-ing and awww-ing at your kitten photos for the past hour.

You know, I wonder if during these tough financial times, we'll find ourselves appreciating the beauty in our precious little fur babies and their simple ways. Do you know what I mean? I'm just thankful for all our blessings and watching my little Zuzu, who's just happy to be alive with a full tummy and a warm-loving home, makes me feel even more humble. :) Why go out and spend money when watching Zuzu tackle a shoe lace for 20 minutes or run up and down the stairs with her toy-on-a-stick dragging behind her, or hearing her make those cute clicking noises as she tries to catch the mysterious red laser dot... it's all soo precious?!

My fur-daughter was definatly a gift from God to help me always remember, in his infinite wisdom, that he watches over even the tiniest of his creatures and he'll watch over me, too.

We may have rescued these little orphaned angels, but now that I think about it, I wonder who rescued whom?

    :)
    hugs,
    Karen

  15. Thanks for the welcome SandOs and BC :)

Zuzu is now eleven weeks old and weighs a whopping 3 lbs 8 oz
^%T4 n (that was Zuzu walking across the keyboard adding her regal two cents!)
She has long, graceful legs and a tail to match.

She nuzzles into her favorite soft, fuzzy blue blanket every night and suckles and makes bread while purring up a storm! She is so consistant in her nightly routine on the blankie between my pillow and Dan's that I have become accustomed to her and find her little motor as soothing as a white noise machine, helping me get to sleep even faster.

I love my little fur daughter :) And I so appreciate being able to share her with a group as equally cat-smitten as me!

    hugs,
    Karen

  17. Welcome Zuzu's Mom!.... this is a very friendly site, and yes, we are all as
    "kitten-smitten" as you!

  18. Oh, I practically cried reading this great story! Your husband sounds nearly as wonderful as the kitty! :) I have bottle fed an orphan too. It is amazing how easily a tiny kitten steals your heart.

  19. There are so many of us who feel as you do! There's nothing in the world that can make me as teary as reading a story like yours!
Zuzu is SO lucky! And you all will be rewarded daily!

We too, have a new kitten... and what joy he has brought to us and his "big sister" 4-year old Callie---although it took her a bit over 3 days to realize the joy! LOL

  20. Aw, how sweet of a story. A warm welcome to you and yours including fur family. Best wishes and smoochies to your new little Zuzu(cute name too)!

  21. Thanks for the sweet welcome Mermandrea and JeanKit :)

I just got back from having some fifty pictures developed--all of baby Zuzu *sheepish grin*

The kindly lady behind the photo counter just smiled politely at my over-the-top gushing at every picture. What can I say? I'm a fur-mommy and very proud of her cuteness!

I imagine that poor dear gets all kinds of people and their pictures.

Zuzu's been bummed that we took down the Christmas tree; she thought it her personal play toy and would climb it to just below the top and perch there as though she was ready to hunt, or eat her prey in seclusion like a cheetah. (ha ha) Never mind that her "prey" is a tiny mouse toy.

I've got to figure out how to post these pictures for you all. She's so darn cute!

Hugs to you all and your fur children,
    Karen

  23. very nice pictures !!! did you get her name from the little girl in "it's a wonderful life" ???

Posted 2 years ago by CSBM #

  24. Exactly Cheri! In the movie she came home sick to her daddy and asked him to "paste" the petals back on her flower.

Our little kitten was so sick and she came home with daddy to make her all better :)

The name, Zuzu, just seemed right!

  27. Hi Karen - welcome to TDK, the fluffiest site on the internet! I missed this thread before. I will have to look at your pics later (can't see a thing thru this firewall!) but your discription of this little darling is great. I agree with you - I see no need to go out when I can play with my little girl and watch her have fun. That's Miss Leela as my avatar. Hubby and I had a rather drastic home renovation last year after losing our boys, Jiggs, 16 and Shaddo, 17. They would never have been able to put up with what Leela did. She was our distraction, our sanity-saver, our hero and our little trooper. I believe she saved us!

  30. WHat a great story to start the day. Welcome to TDK Karen. I'm never an online forum sort of person but it's really great here and the people are just wonderful. Wishing you and your family many great years with Zuzu. Such a cutie.
