I need prayers, light, positive vibes and the odd miracle if one's going spare - for Mum tomorrow - she's spending the day at the home I've earmarked for her, and has worked herself up into such a state about it all, I honestly have no idea how it's all going to go - and it HAS to go well...

Positive thoughts coming your way. I'm sure you've made a wise choice for her.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. My grandmother really resisted going to live in a retirement home. Once she got there, she thought it was great! (No more cooking for herself, having to clean a house, etc.) Change is always hard, though - I'm sure Mum is scared right now.

Thanks guys - yes, Mum is scared, not so much of the actual change, but of the process of getting there. And unfortunately, when Mum gets so worked up, everyday life just stops, full stop.

MCW - I will pray that you mum falls in love with something about the new home tomorrow. One positive aspect may be enough to erase some of the fear of this big change. Will be thinking about you tomorrow as you pursue this "HAS to go well" adventure with your mum.

It may be difficult for your mum at first, but I am guessing that she will actually make friends with some of the folks at the home and be just fine with it. My uncle went into a home about a year ago. He was determined to leave it. He is now quite content with this home and even has a girlfriend!
Be strong, MCW. You can't make her stop worrying, but you can be supportive and firm at the same time. You are in my prayers. Let us know how it goes.

mcw, I, too, am sending positive energy for you and your mum. Hope everything goes well, and even if she seems angry and resentful, this will pass, and when she accepts things she will make lots of friends and eventually be happy there.
Stay firm, and keep the faith. I am with you in spirit.

Good luck MCW. I hope that she decides that it will be a good move. My husbands grandmother last Christmas announced to the family that she was taking herself off to an assisted living facility. All her own idea and she loves it there. She is busier than ever and likes the fact that she can walk to church and never step a foot outside. She can even provide them with her holiday recipes and pay the catering side of their food services department to bake her holiday pies so that no one misses out. My mother is a volunteer at that facility and has decided that when the time comes that she needs more care that she wouldn't mind going there herself.

She's decided, she will go to the home. I can't feel triumphant, because it is such a huge thing for her to do, but I can feel relieved - it really was the only sensible option.
Now the really hard work begins...
