  1. Thanks Shelley!

WWM - I had to laugh when I read the bit about a roomie for Mum - because she was absolutely adamant on two things before deciding to move : her own en-suite toilet, and positively NO sharing!!! Fortunately, this home scores on both counts. Thanks for the words of warning, I will find out how this home operates as we go along. And I'm doing better on the guilt thing, although I do expect to feel a bit flaky tomorrow evening.

  2. Well, she's there, and all seemed to go well - see how she settles in over the next few days. It's been a long, busy, tiring day, with lots of talking - all conducted at loud volume, (and that's with the hearing aid on!)meaning I have one helluva headache tonight. And work tomorrow. Early night methinks!

  3. Take a long hot bath, glass of wine in hand and relax. You deserve it. Glad the move has been completed, and now the settling in begins. Positive energy continues your direction.

  4. Another big step, MCW!! I don't wonder that you have a headache. Hurrah for you and your mum. xx

  5. Thanks One Popoki, might just do that! - if I can summon the energy to get of the sofa...

All Mum's day to day stuff is now with her, plus some personal effects - next is whatever ornaments we can make fit, books and bookcase(s) - again, space depending. I'm giving myself until 3rd February to clear the flat; Chris and I are going to do a car boot sale in a couple of weeks.

  7. Hi, MCW - So glad to hear that mum is settled in and so far, so good. At least she hasn't bitten anyone! My advice for you now - take a deep breath and plan a treat for yourself. Maybe a small get away this weekend. My guess is that all of your time of late has been devoted to caring for your mum and her resettlement. There will be lots left to do but please - take time for yourself and do something where you can totally relax and for a few brief hours, not worry! Take good care.

  8. You're absoluteley right WWM - and after work tomorrow, I'm meeting one of my two best friends for a meal followed by a film. Just hope I stay awake! ;-)

  9. Great plan, MCW! I would prescribe a bit of wine with that meal. Who cares if you don't stay awake during the film? You'll be with friends, have had a nice dinner, it will be dark and nobody will be asking you to make decisions. Just be careful about possible snoring.......

  10. Unfortunately I'll be driving WWM, so no wine, but I may just throw caution to the wind and have a dessert!

  11. Oh... well, by all means have dessert! You know that recent studies have proven that dark chocolate is an anti-depressant. Which means, by my calculation, that dark chocolate now equals health food! Anyway, life is short so as they say, eat dessert first!

  12. Didn't manage the pudding - ran out of time, would've missed the start of the film.

Really enjoyed my girlie night out, just what the doctor ordered. And the film? St Trinians. Hilarious! Polly's Mum and all teachers will appreciate it, plus anyone who loves a damn good Brit comedy.

No word from the home, so I'm assuming no news is good news. Feels odd not to have popped in on Mum or phoned her, but in a good way.

  13. My goodness, MCW - I was just thinking about you and wondering how the day had gone! I have a little bit of trouble with the time difference between here and the UK. If you missed dessert at dinner then you should definitely have extra scones at tea! Sigh... I am addicted to scones - why don't we have tea here??? So civilized.

Anyway, I learned early on that no news is definitely good news. And I don't know what the staff might have told you, but I was always told that, in this kind of a transition for your parent, that it was actually better if you don't go to visit for a few days. Kind of lets your mum settle in and learn the routine. If you visit it is just so tempting for her to ask to leave and for you to feel bad. You don't need to do that. Go have some pudding!

  15. Wow, MCW - I haven't had a chance to catch up with everything for the last couple of days, and looks what's happened! Your mum is all moved into her new place and so far, things are going well! That really WAS fast! Fantastic!

  16. MCW - would you start a new thread so that we can all catch up??? Take good care!
