hello, i am brand new to this forum

(41 posts)
  1. hi all- i finally got the nerve up to join this group. my name is bobby and i am a 63 year old man, semi-retired. i have 7 dogs; 5 poodles, 2 chihuahuas, also 2 persian cats, and 8 english budgies. i just made a commitment today to adopt an adult female cat, about 2 years old. she has been at my vets office for about 2 months, one of his staff techs apparently found her tied to the front of a house on their way to work and rescued her. she has a quiet personality and i am very hopeful that she will be able to make the transistion to my family without too much stress. my two persians are female littermates, also with very quiet and loving personalities. i am hoping that all goes well when i bring her home toward the end of this week. i know she is accustomed to barking dogs (she will get to hear a fair amount of that in my house!) but the cats have the run of the house and can always find a hiding spot if they need to. my dogs are basically confined to the first floor of the house so there is not a lot of direct interaction and i am always on hand to supervise whenever they are all together. i have been lurking on this site for a number of months, i really enjoy the nite shift. i have been shy about joining the dialogue but i see that just about all the regulars on the nite shift come across as such nice, wonderful people and compassionate animal lovers that i would like to make acquaintance with all. i am not very computer savy so i hope that it will not be a problem for me but i will do my best.

  2. Welcome poochi7 to the TDK family! We don't worry about being computer savvy, you have done very well so far. Sounds like you have a houseful of furrbabies and feathered friends, and about to add a new addition to your home. If you get the chance and have pictures of your babies, you can always add them to www.catster.com and www.dogster.com and that way all of us can admire your family.

  8. hi azdebra

thank you very much for the welcome. i am very glad to have joined this group. believe it or not, i have 3 digital cameras but don't have a clue as to how to really use them or get photos on to the computer. i have some reading to do, to say the least!! as you may have guessed, i am not at all a technical or mechanically inclined individual. but i will work on it and maybe i will surprise myself. thanks again for the welcome.

  13. hi once again,

what a welcome committee. and from all over the world !
i'm really very impressed and thank you all for making me feel right at home, right away. as far as feeding time at my house, it is generally uneventful.
all my pets eat dry diets and it's available all the time. the only time there is a ruckus, is when i have treats for myself, the dogs always feel that my treats are their treats, even though i don't feel the same way about their treats. just about all my meals, i eat out, so i really don't do any cooking at home. this was a habit i got into many years ago and i probably should change it, not only because of the expense but for overall health benefits.
i have to work on this too.

  17. Welcome to TDK, Poochi7. You've got a houseful! I'm glad you decided to de-lurk. I've managed to learn how to download my digital photos to my computer. It involves plugging one end of the cord that came with your camera into a USB port on your computer and the other end into the body of the camera. It is just like putting a thumb drive or CD into your computer. Once you have the photos on your computer, you can then upload them onto a Catster or Dogster page on the internet. Each of those sites has easy step-by-step instructions on how to create a page for each pet and upload photos of them. You can always ask us for help if you get stuck!

  18. hi once more

i live in richmond hill (queens county) a part of new york city. i've lived in the same house nearly 40 years, so there are a lot of memories here, not to mention clutter. i always thought when i retired, i would like to move to the country, but i have come to realize that it's probably not such a good idea for me. i know that i am really a stay at home person and it would be too much of a disruption for me and my babies.
kittenwhisperer - thank you for the encouragement on the use of the camera and uploading photos of my crew. i'm not quite at that point yet but i most definately will ask for help when i reach that stage. in the meanwhile i have to choose one of the digital cameras to work with and read the booklets that came with it!! i am going to take a meal brake about now, so i will be gone a few hours, but i look forward to popping in on nite shift later this evening. see y'all then. bobby
