There is snow on that thar road Night Shift

  1. In honor of the snow I think we must celebrate winter! I have cornish game hens in the oven roasting with a sweet potato. I have tossed a salad and have nuts to warm and put on it. The orange is out to make dressing--a little olive oil, balsamic vinergarette, and fresh orange juice that will be ever so slightly drizzled over my greens with toasted nuts and chopped pieces of the orange. I have opened a bottle of white to breathe. The fire is going, so for dessert we will have roasted popcorn!

Come in, pull up a chair, put up your feet, enjoy the fire, have a drink, cuddle a kitteh, and share your day whether just beginning or winding down!

  2. That thar? My goodness you sound like my crazy Uncle Bill - rest his soul.

I'd just like some wine by the fire, hon. Sounds awesome.

My day is just about over here at work. Gonna make an adult beverage run, hope on the train, and go home and cuddle my Birthday Boy.

  3. i have fish breath, it's really crab breath, i made she-crab bisque with extra crab for lunch/dinner, no crackers or carbs of any kind.

blood sugar has been very good for the last 2 or 3 days. i have an at-home a1c test kit but am a little nervous to try it out. if its higher than i think, i could end up in a funk, or the other way, elated. i promise to do it soon...

meanwhile may i please have a purry furry for my lap ??? thank you ...

  4. Still at work... 25 minutes and counting. An adult beverage sounds so good. Having a creepy day - well it's actually been going on for weeks, months (?) Changes need to be made in my world.

  9. OMG - we drove from El Paso to Midland today through some most unsettling weather. While in El Paso we had five inches snow on Tuesday. But today, around Van Horn, there was thick, thick fog/mist and temp's of 31. Thankfully the roads were clear.

We are SO happy to be home!

  10. Welcome home, WWM!!! You can't keep going away like this - we miss you!

  12. You know, SM, snow is a four-letter word just like work in my book! But, since you seem to be enjoying it...smile..

My day... this will be a bit of a catch up posting

Jetta - I went back to work yesterday and haven't found evidence of any vomiting (however if it's foam I won't, if it's hairballs I will). I've cut back on her food and she seems to be eating a bit better (hunger perhaps?). The vet finally contacted me and she said the pepcid is okay but not daily. Her last bloodwork was PERFECT with the exception of the BUN. I can have a cat scan done but I don't have $400 right now. I might take her in to be weighed over the weekend. She was 7.3 lbs last time. If she has lost too much I'll have some serious thinking to do. Other than that she is very clingy and very loving.

Dad - home as of last night. His Tri-care will cover home IV therapy and we learned how to do it today. Once every three days he will get the antibiotics (80 treatments--OY). He is very thin but ate well tonight (and needs a shave!). His spirits are much better now that he is home. We did find out that his internal defibrillator works as it has fired (the cardiologist informed us he had an "end of life event"). They will call the device company and they will come out and "interrogate?" the device (makes me laugh every time I say that!)

Sister Sandy - How she is still alive I will never know. "Worst case of congestive heart failure we have ever seen in a woman your age (54)." She is very, very, very sick and has an excellent legal case (and I don't believe in many medical malpractice but this one is clear cut - doc put her on thyroid almost six years ago and never once, not even to diagnose, did he do bloodwork. Her heart is irreparably damaged. I don't like nor get along with her however I am a compassionate woman so I was kind and did all the running around for her this afternoon (she was discharged today). Let me tell you, Costco is the way to go for prescriptions. She doesn't have insurance and four of her Rx came to $30.80. One of them (I pay the bills for my dad and he is paying her meds) was $144 every two weeks. At Costco it was $10.80. I'm moving my Rx's there!

Honey - started a new job this week and I haven't been able to talk to him much at all. I'm grateful though. He lost his job and had a new one in 48 hours. I know it's not like that for way too many people, including many in this family.

Me - I'm feeling better. Keeping food down and no more fever. I didn't get it as bad as many have. But I am tired. Worked long hours yesterday and running around and again tonight. I'm gonna read a few threads and then pop off to bed.

So... I'll take some fresh fruit and cold red wine (it's mild here today) and just try and soak up my family of choice! Thanks SM for opening the lounge!

  13. Oooh, and since it's winter and there's snow in many place, could I have an Irish coffee, please?

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  14. Irish coffee sounds pretty good!

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  15. I will take some hot cocoa with a little dash of amaretto in it with whipped cream on top. Some smore's and popcorn too! We have snow coming down outside, said to have one to two inches by morning. Me and the girls are snuggling close tonight! WWM, please do stick around, we miss you!

  16. Lainey, on balance your update sounds pretty good. I'm SO glad your dad is home. I'm sorry about your sister, that's really terrible and stressful.

    {{{Lainey}}}

Hi GD! Feel like I don't see you much lately.

I actually am going to head for bed pretty quick; I was coughing dreadfully all day at work, which is exhausting in addition to making my throat feel like it's been sandblasted.

ETA: Hi MC! You snuck in while I was typing. How are you doing?

Posted 2 years ago by Kilroy #

  17. MC, that sounds good, too - can I share your s'mores?
SM and MC, how are you feeling?

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  18. Hi Kilroy! I got mad at Comcast, so I currently have no tv or internet at home. I can get on TDK from my phone, but it's a bit of a pain in the neck. Mostly I just lurk from the phone. I do try to check in from work, though.
Sorry you're not feeling well :(

I'm looking forward to a full weekend. I took Saturday off to do a garage sale with Auntie Ellen. After that, we're going out for sushi with her daughter and later we're taking Christmas pictures. I'm dog-sitting this weekend and promised GG that I will bake cookies for him. I have a book of recipes for him to look at and he gets to choose what he wants - he's looking forward to that :)

  19. Doing okay GD. I fell on the snow today. The area where the hernia was repaired is really hard--but not bulging like before. I have a re-evaluation tomorrow at 9. I took it easy today.

Lainey great news Dad is home and if they are releasing your sister at least she is not at death's door yet. Glad to hear you are feeling better as well--looks like both you and Jetta are doing a little better!

Kilroy--Irish Whiskey works wonders on a cough--just add a little honey!

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  20. Oh no, SM! I hope you didn't re-injure it! Please take it easy!!

Posted 2 years ago by GreatDane #

  21. Trying to just be still this evening.

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  22. Evening/afternoon all, it's cold, cold, cold and wet here today. It's supposed to be summer but it's 13C(54F) outside and even Shadz is staying inside by her own choice.

  23. Cautiously optomistic that I am feeling a little better today. I got out to the post office and grocery store today. I have a crock pot full of homeade minestrone soup cooking, smells yummy! Yes, GD, have some smore's! SM, stay safe please! Kilroy, how is your head????

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  24. I'll have a hot buttered rum, some popcorn, and a bowl of salad without the nuts (I'm allergic to them). Not that I've ever really known what it's like to be prosperous, but I'm a bit bummed that I won't be able to shop this Christmas like I should; at least I have the knitting needles fired up and ready to go, so Christmas won't be too big of a bummer this year.
