1) They cheer me up when I am sad.
2) They love to cuddle up with you.
3) Cute and fluffy (except for sphynx).
4) Purring.
5) After kittenhood, they don't require a lot of daily attention and care
6) Self-cleaning.
7) Generally move in pre-litter trained.
8) You get a cat, a therapist, a heater, a companion, an entertainer, a pest controller and a playmate all for the same low price of regular petting, feeding, brushing and litter cleaning
9)They don't care who you are as long as you take care of them.

my mother said to me today "cats are only out for themselves" I am so glad i saw this thread the same day! I know so many cat-haters. Sometimes I think they are just on the whole its cool to hate cats train.. Its funny cause a lot of these people are dog owners and they should be cat owners(enjoy the pet and not the walks!) It is so annoying you cant beat a cat for a pet for all the reasons mentioned above!:)
I am glad i found the kitten forum!! -

Totally agree AMC18, cate hating makes no sense! I'm so lucky to have my husband who adores cats just as much as I do! Most people assume guys are only into dogs, but I find that some of the best guys out there are cat lovers! Especially my father and hubby.
We have two cats, Anastasia and Birdie. Anastasia is a little more independent, but she is also more sociable when it comes to strangers and loves being near humans. Birdie is our baby, she always wants to be with us. She's also the joker of the family, always doing silly things. She plays fetch too which is totally awesome!Sorry for going on and on, Im just glad to have found a good cat forum!

It always amazes me that when a dog-person by some way or another ends up with a cat, it takes a month or two, and then they start telling me about how annoying their dogs are . . . Compared to the cat, who wants love and attention, but is more than capable of taking care of itself. No opening doors for pee/poo trips, no having to watch their eating like a hawk, cats are so independent! they always say. Haha. Told you so!!!

I like dogs a LOT. I am always happy to visit with them, I adore the way they will pull their owners out of burning houses and fast-running rivers (well, the big ones) and chase off scary strangers, and I love to go for walks with them -- they sure keep you healthy!
But I couldn't live with one. Whereas a house is not a home without a cat in it. Or two. Or three... :)

Well said JCat! Welcome SZ and AMC to our purr-fect site.
Our cats are our ears. They always alert us as to when someone is at the door, when I am engrossed on the computer or whatever. They also keep the elephants away.

I like dogs too and hope to one day have a Westie or Corgi or other small, active dog, but I know we don't have the money, space or time for a puppy or adult dog right now. However we will enjoy our 2 little kitties!
Also, we just got them a cat climber and its very entertaining to watch them.

Everyone in my immediate family is obsessed with cats and kittens. Our lives wouldn't be complete without Checkers and Edward.

LS, true enough, all reasons i would have agreed wholeheartedly with a year or more ago, when my sweet soul kitties, Cloud & Salem, were still with me...Since losing them, to CRF and cancer, I am learning that not ALL cats are affectionate and cuddly...some in fact are not that way at all. My current two cats, Jasmine, 2, and Kensho, 9 months, do not have any desire to come and be petted, let alone jump on my lap, let alone settle in there. I have found, to my chagrin, that with Jasmine, I have to pick her up, put her in my lap, and pet her and cuddle her ardently before she -- sometimes! -- discovers that, indeed, petting and affection is not such a bad thing after all! and she even begins to purr: a very faint purr that I can barely hear. Kensho, at least, can be counted on to sleep on my bed every night. But he is no lap cat either. Still, I love 'em. Cats do indeed rock, but they are each very individual, and not all are cuddlers. I remain hopeful that with the wisdom of maturity my cats will grow more affectionate....

I have a friend who said she hated cats and loved dogs to death. I talked to her so much about them and she would just look at me and one day she came to my place and met my little girl and just fell in love with them. She just didn't know cats or anything about them. Now she adores them and loves them as much as I do.
It is impossible to meet a cat and not love them all. Even if they are mean like my Sylar, they are the best. :)
I just love ALL animals, how could you not.
