A spare prayer for Molly the Cat?

(37 posts)
  1. My mom finally broke down and told me Molly (my other cat who lives with her) isn't well. On Christmas her face got all swollen on the one side and her eye swelled shut. Today they were taking her into the vet's office only to have a large infected area pop open in the car. It drained lots of infected stuff and when they got to the vet's, it was closed and will be closed until Monday. My mom lives in a small town so there is no other vet and no emergency clinic. My mom is gonna clean up Molly and her (???) abscess and get her in first thing on Monday. They called the number and I guess my mom doesn't see the need to make this an "emergency" page for the vet. She's offically her cat now so I can't really say much. Just would appreciate some prayers for Molly right now.

  2. Prayers that the abcess can be cleaned effectively until she can get to the vet. This happened to another kitteh this week. Leo will be fine but he had a vet stay to get cleaned and antibiotics. Molly may be her cat, but you can always encourage her to at least call him and ask if it is what he considers an emergency.

  6. I am ok. I did call in, I feel like a nuisance when I do. I am gonna lay down most of the day and rest with my girls. Hopefully it was just a little bug.

  14. Poor Molly, hope that with the abscess popping and draining that the majority of the infection is out now. Does your Mom have any antibiotics for Molly? Both Molly and your Mom are in my prayers and thoughts for her healing.

  15. I spoke with mom again as I am worried sick about Molly. She said when she washed up Molly, who is a very furry Maine Coon, she found a scratch on her face. I have no idea what she got into because she hasn't been outside EVER. My mom thinks it could be the Christmas tree or an ornament hanger that scratched her. She is always playing with the tree and swatting ornaments all over the living room. She said her face looks better and her eye is open now. She is gonna keep washing the area and watching for more drainage to keep it clean. I hope she is gonna be ok, she is almost 15.

  17. Not sure if this will help........but one of my elders had a swelling above the eye, and the eye itself was near shut. I made some chamomile tea, and cleansed the eye area with it. Also held a compress that had been soaked in warm tea over the eye area. I read that green tea would work too. It was amazing, after several treatments, the condition was greatly improved. Kitty was wrapped in a towel, burrito fashion, to accomplish this. It may be a "bandaid" to get throught the weekend. {{{{ M T C }}}} And MC too!!!

  19. It makes me very sad to read this! Abcesses are always serious (I am Leo's mom and I have dealt with this stuff for 20 years, as I have always had outdoor and indoor cats). If she won't take the cat to a vet, please call her and ask her to swab the area of the wound gently with peroxide. They sell a spray bottle of peroxide at CVS (I think it is, else Walgreen's) that would be ideal for this purpose, so long as she keeps it out of the kitty's eyes. It sounds like she hasn't bandaged the wound, which is good because the wound needs to drain.

    Lots of prayers for Molly Cat. Please ask your mom to page the vet for advice. If I had a dollar for every time I have called my vets over the years after hours, I could retire a very rich woman right now. There is no charge for talking to him and seeing what he says about the situation.

  20. I think my mom always keeps peroxide around and she certainly has some green tea. I believe she was applying warm compresses to the area. Molly is very good for her (and me too if I was there) and will let her practically do anything to her. Thanks for all the prayers.

  21. Peroxide is a must for abcesses, it will help kill infection. {{{Molly}}}

  22. if you haven't already done this, go and buy a new bottle of peroxide. it becomes unusable after 6 months...and its cheap...

  24. Apparently my sister (who works in surgery) brought home some supplies they were gonna throw out (don't worry they weren't bad, just stuff they didn't use in a surgery. Gotta be wasteful and throw it out ya know) and washed up Molly. She had more stuff drain out but was very cooperative. They put a little aloe vera on it (my vet said that is a safe thing to put on an incision/cut cause its all natural) and she went off to play with her favorite mouse. She is eating (mom is only giving her soft wet foods) and using the litter box so I think that is good. She will still go to the vet in the morning.
