  1. This is just for fun everyone---
When HM shared her person-on-the-street interview on Houston tv with us she put herself on an international website for all the world to see. Same with KK and MS down under sharing their little drummer girl on youtube. We've all had moments when we were in the spotlight or have brushed elbows with someone of note.
If you were at a party and someone said, "You have 5 minutes to list every moment of fame or drop every famous name you've had an encounter with. Ready? Go!" What could you reel off? Did you star in the 3rd grade Christmas pageant or sleep with Pierce Brosnan? (Sorry Pipa's mum-we know that's only for you) Inquiring minds want to know...

  5. I've met President Bush, Pat Boone, James Hampton (he was in Teen Wolf), Dermot Crowley (who was in Star Wars), a whole lot of baseball players, and talked on the phone with Billy Joe Shaver.

    In other words, nobody special!!!

  6. And that stinks because my entertainment reporter has interviewed all kinds of musicians and actors (the one that comes to mind is Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four movies, Ioan Gruffud).

    I'm so jealous.

  7. I've talked Harrison Ford and Charles Heston, and just missed Jerry Jeff Walker. We were promoters for his concert, and when the time came to bring him is lunch, I was busy feeding my then 9 month old son.
I have met several very well known Hawaiian singers - Keali'i Reichel, Uncle Willie K, The Makaha Sons, Keola Beamer...

  9. Brushes with fame or the famous….This sounds a lot like blowing your own horn but here goes. More or less in chronological order, I have met or interacted with 4 notable people. When I was about 14 or so Poul Anderson the Olympic gold medal winner came to our school and spoke to the 4-H club. As a demonstration he had 10 or 12 of us sit on a lunchroom table and he lifted us off the floor. My next event happened while I was president of the high school science club, one of the Nobel prize winning physicists who was working at the nuclear weapons development center came an spoke to us. He also spoke to the Kiwanis Club in town and I got to introduce him to the club. A picture of us was in the local paper. My children and I got our picture in an Oregon small town paper while we were on our way up to the World’s Fair that was held in Spokane WA in the middle 70’s. We had stopped to get some lunch and the reporter noticed our GA plates on the truck. For about 3 years in the early 80’s I videotaped a locally famous rock band here in Atlanta. Peter Stroud was part of the group then called Caesar Speaks. Peter is now the lead guitarist for Sheryl Crowe. There were others that passed through the group including current members of The Black Crows and the Ga Satellites. During that time I had a more or less permanent video setup in the Cotton Club and recorded nearly everyone that came to perform there. When I left due to a management change one of the notable folks, Angie Bowie said she was not coming back there if I was not there to record her performance.
That’s it, but who knows who the future will bring.

  10. I followed Slash into the bathroom at a Hollywood watering hole once - lol. That's how we 'met.'

I've met the Sr. President Bush, Thurgood Marshall (who doesn't really count because he's a cousin) just about every wrestler you can name, Joe Lynn Turner, Richie Blackmore, and some entire bands:

    Dokken
    Pat Travers
    Iron Maiden
    Rush
    Parliament Funkadelic
    Ratt
    Quiet Riot
    AC/DC
    Van Halen
    Sammy Hagar

Probably more, but you guys KNOW I've lost a lot of braincells over the years.

Oh yeah, during the Royal Rumble in 2000 I was interviewd about who would 'win' and all my friends saw it. I was on international TV - lol.

  11. Let's see. My dad has a picture of me from when I was 4, sitting on Bobby Rydell's lap. Bobby Vinton was there also. They were at a hotel where we were staying. At 16 I met Bruce Springsteen, who told me that when I grow up, I'm going to be a real fox. (I was actually a little insulted at this, believing myself to already be grown up.) Saw Bruce again a few years later at a fragrance counter on Christmas eve, when he came by looking for Coty Musk. (This is not sold in department stores--LOL!) He wrote "Merry Christmas Debbie" and signed it, which I still have in my scrapbook. I went on rides at Six Flags in NJ with some of the members of the band Styx, but my dad would not let me go with them to their party that night.
I've more recently met Doris Roberts from Everybody Loves Raymond, Ty Pennington from Extreme Makeover (he signed his book to me--DEB-Thanks for all the love! I'm thinking of tearing that page out and hanging it up for all to see and draw their own conclusions.) I went to a Maya Angelou book signing, the line was so long that time ran out before she signed my book, but I was honored to stand and look at her. Her presence is amazing!
I met Charlton Heston 10 or so years ago when he came thru Atlanta for a book signing. I was holding my then-baby Jake, and Mr. Heston said, "That's a fine-looking boy." We repeat that to Jake whenever we watch the Ten Commandments!

  12. Oh, Kevin Costner finished filming a movie in my home town about 2 months ago. George Lopez is also in the movie! Met them both.

  13. As a design consultant with Ethan Allen in Towson, Maryland I had Jim Palmer (Oriole's Pitcher) as a client for one afternoon. Met Johnny Unitas and his son when I first started in sales at the Fan and Lighting shop I worked for in Timonium, Maryland. Met Fabian and a few other singing stars of the late 50's at our two local teencenters when I was 14 and 15 years old. It's shows my age when I draw a blank on their names.

  14. I was working for a company that made promotional items, like t-shirts and posters, and during our summer picnic that summer, the Black Crows played softball with us. That was really fun.

  15. I met a few way back when....Wayne Newton & 'Granny" from the Beverly Hillbillys at the Pleasanton fairgrounds. The Forrester Sisters. Elvin Bishop(he hasn't aged a bit). One that stands out to this day because of his size was Mike Tyson. His arm was the size of both my legs put together. The guy was just HUGE. He was quiet & sweet...nothing like I would expect from a boxer. There were others but I need more coffe to remember.
There was another band. Cold Blood. I was best friends with a gal whose aunt was married to one of the band members. They were like everyday folk(maybe alittle drinking & drugs, but they hid it from us kids).

  16. When I was very small, we lived in the same apartment building as Walter Cronkite. One time there was a hurricane that blew some furniture off the roof that smashed into our dining room window. I was sent down to stay in the Cronkite's apartment until everything was cleared up. Years later, Walter still recognised my dad on the street and said hello.
Also when I was a child, I lived on the same street with the girl who was the model for the little Coppertone girl.
I went to high school with Annette Benning's (Mrs. Warren Beatty) sister
My roommate and I had baseball player Willie McCovey over for dinner once.
A few years ago, I met Pulitzer Prize winning author Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes) at breakfast at my San Diego hotel on Christmas Day.
I was also on the local San Diego news twice.

  17. Oh yeah-I'm from Yukon,Oklahoma and yes I have met Garth Brooks. I even have his autograph. He's very nice. Dale Robertson used to eat in the deli at the local grocery store where my mom worked.
I used to be the voice of the bank's automated service line.

  18. This is great. With all these names floating around with some of them shared, maybe it Sharon should have called it 6 degrees.

  20. The only thing I've ever seen Pierce Brosnan in was Mrs. Doubtfire - he was funny in that.

  21. I went to high school with a kid named Joe. Ran into him at a party once, sucked face with him awhile ,till he decided he wanted more. Who would've known he'd become Rich(lives in a multi-million dollar home) & Famous. He trains all types of Amazon birds for shows & the movies.

  22. Well, don't know if this counts cause I don't remember it, but Harry Truman let me hold his finger when I was 2 months old. He was visiting in Sedalia MO, where I was born. My mother lived in an apartment across the street from the newspaper editor, a friend of Truman's, and his wife had sort of taken her under her wing, and had us over a lot. Truman came calling while we were there, he was still just VP, this was early in 45. As my mother tells it, I kept trying to pull his finger into my mouth to suck on it. (My dad was off flying somewhere)

  23. I am envious of all of you meeting various 'famous' people, the only one I can remember meeting is Manuel Noriega in Panama (before he became a federal guest of our country, lol).

  24. Funny Azdeb. And still a celebrity encounter of the dangerous kind.

  25. A few that come easily to mind:

John Wayne and Buddy Ebsen lived in Newport Beach (Balboa Island) and as kids hanging out at the beach we saw/met them in various restaurants and other places.

John & Bo Derek. My former husband actually recognized John coming in the door before realizing who Bo was in a roadside stand outside of Santa Barbara.

Several baseball players in the 1960's who played for the California Angels. My dad hung out at a couple of the bars the players would frequent.

Chuck Mangione in Cypress after a performance (Signed the CD and laughed at my escorts bad jokes.)

    Networker

  27. I saw Robert Redford at a colorado airport, this was a few years ago and he looked so cool. I'm ashamed to say that I'm a trekkie and have met most of the actors from next generation including Jonanthan Frakes who made my knees wobble by just smiling at me.Gates McFadden,Denice Crosby,Marina Sirtis that's all.

  28. Networker, I worked for the company that appraised John Wayne's Newport Beach house. I actually got to go inside, and even though it was empty at the time, it was quite impressive. This was in 1986 and if memory serves, we appraised it at 11 million dollars.

  30. Oh yeah - I met George Takei (original Star Trek's Mr Sulu) at a Star Trek convention (my one and only). I got his autograph and had my picture taken with him!

Also, Fred "The Hammer" Williamson (former football player, and movie/TV star) tried to pick up my girlfriends and me at the Lake Tahoe airport one New Year's Eve. What was really sad was that none of us knew who he was; we thought he looked familiar but couldn't place him. It was only when we arrived at the house where we were staying that all the guys got all excited that we'd met "The Hammer". Turns out he was the "ringer" in the football game in the movie "M*A*S*H", and since has been in several TV shows.
