  1. We got a 7 week old kitten 1.5 months ago. (so now she's 13 weeks old). We already had a 3.5 year old cat. They are both Domestic Short Hairs or mixes. Anyway, at first they looked like they weren't getting along. The older cat was constantly hissing at the kitten and the kitten would "wrestle" with the older one. They wouldn't stay in the same room together.
We were worried they wouldn't get along...

Anyway, now the kitten follows the older cat everywhere! And they even sleep together sometimes. Sometimes I see them grooming each other. However the kitten likes to "jump" the cat and the older cat "sumo wrestles" her.

But if they are grooming each other, that's a good sign right?

  2. Yes, that's a wonderful sign of acceptance and LOVE. Kitten is a baby, and loves to jump on things. Other cats are the best (lol). Your older kitteh doesn't have much patience for busy kitten stuff, so the sumo wrestling commences :-) It's very normal.

  3. I agree with Siobhan, it's very normal and very encouraging. Sounds like they're good friends now. The wrestling will taper off when little one gets a bit older and settles down.

  4. You've described my Shaddo and Jiggs when they were little! They were a year apart. Enjoy this special bond!

  6. They were sleeping curled up against each other last night. It was really cute.

  7. when cats groom each other, it means they are friends. Cat that are freinds often do that. Cats really care for each other!

  8. Cool. It seems that sometimes the are at odds. Wrestling, hissing at each other, etc (maybe that's playing?) and then other times they are curled up next to each other sleeping and the older cat is grooming the younger one. THe older cat is a really lad back cat where as the kitten is bouncing off the walls and "attacking" the cat.

  9. Ours groom each other all the time. The big cats care for the babies and the babies clean the big cats. It's so sweet.
