Sunday Cafe, YAY

(27 posts)
  1. Happy Sunday all! The kittehs have a full breakfast of both healthy and not so healthy options! They have pancakes, waffles, omelets, bacon, sausage, sausage and biscuits, croissants, bagels, hot/cold cereal, breads and fruits. They also have an assortment of yogurts and cottage cheese. The usual coffee, tea, cocoa, juices, milk, soda and water are available. Hope your Sunday is good. Mine is crazy so far! Wilma is sick AGAIN and keeping a close eye on "Miss Spunky Pants" and I am also keeping an eye on where Betty scratched my palm last night. May have it checked today at an urgent care place. Gonna have a hard time healing where it is located in my palm.
But I am EXCITED that I have a "Spa Day" today courtesy of FF. And NO, its not that kind of spa day! Its the kind where I get a massage, manicure...... I leave here shortly but wanted to get the cafe up and running! Happy Sunday

  2. Morning MC, enjoy your 'Spa Day' and hope that Wilma gets over her ills!

  3. Hi MC! So sorry Wilma is sick again, and yowie on the scratch from Betty. Keep a close eye on it; you really don't need any more health "challenges".

Yay for a spa day (of the non-kitty variety)! Have a lovely time.

I had my first of 4 1-hour swimming lessons yesterday, and it went well. I can swim, I'm just not very good at it, so I made a resolution to get better at it so I can use it as a form of exercise. Doesn't count as a workout if you poop out after 10 minutes :) The teacher is tough! Even though it's a lesson, he insists on doing 20 lengths of the pool, so it definitely counts as a workout as well. Today I feel like somebody beat me with a baseball bat on my shoulders and legs, but I'm going back tomorrow.

It is FREEZING here. Mr. K and I went over to Jersey yesterday to see his sister, and it was absolutely frigid out. We're leaving for Florida on Saturday, but it looks like it's only going to be in the 50s; Mr. K is already whining.

I'm going to get back on the sensible eating wagon today, make a soup to take for lunch and something in the crockpot for dinner for the week.

    Have a good Sunday, all.

  4. Whoops, hi Deb! Missed you there (that's what happens when I write an epic, I guess :) )

  5. Hi Deb and Kilroy! Wilma just came out and is laying on one of our chairs in the living room. She looks sad and like she doesn't feel well. Poor baby!

  6. Morning Kilroy :) tis ok, sitting here watching Fox News with the same info for the umpteenth time this last 7 + hrs and I can tell you its d**n boring!

  7. Oh, and I meant to say, since I wasn't around yesterday to say it, YAY for PM's Pickle for being the star of the day! What a beautiful cat.

  8. Happy Sunday, littermates! Poor Wilma :-)

I hope your spa day is wonderful, MC, and that you don't need to get care for your scratched palm. Hey there Kilroy and AZ.

I go back to work tomorrow, after a blissful two weeks at home. I could get used to that (lol)

My workflow is going to totally change in 2010, so I'm a bit excited and a bit nervous too. My job is still secure (no worries there), but the way I do it is undergoing a change as fundamental as when we moved from using a physical card catalog to computer terminals in 1990.

  9. I agree, Miss Pickle has lovely coloring :-)

  10. Good Morning all. Another TDK member that has his kittens on the front! It is the teen that joined about a month ago. His kittens were also on another site as well. So these are very famous kittens.

  11. Ohhh, the Kilroys are coming to Florida!! And you're right, it's cold here (for us, anyway) - it got down to 42 last night and supposed to be 40 the next couple. Brrrr!

Today's my last day of dog-sitting - yay! It was a lot of dog-sitting this time around!
GG is meeting a friend who's in town today and then has a hockey game at 5, so I'm at home with the boysan relaxing. My hip has been bothering me a lot the last 3 weeks or so, so I'm planning on doing some research online to see if I can find out what's up.

Hope you have a great time at the spa today, MC and that poor Wilma feels better soon.

  12. I missed cooking my black-eye peas for New Year's Day, but I did it this morning/noon. I sometimes eat weird stuff at weird times of the day (lol).

I took three slices of bacon, cut them small, and cooked them over low heat in a skillet. There wasn't much fat off the bacon. Then I took a drained can of black-eyed peas and added it to the mostly-cooked bacon. I added a bit of water and some dehydrated onion and let this cook on low heat awhile longer, until I began to smell the beans (I was working on the computer in the next room). Added a tiny bit of salt and some black pepper and chowed down. It was pretty tasty, although very simple. That was my late breakfast/early lunch today. I do enjoy beans and peas, but the hubs isn't a big fan. He's taking a nap, so I took the opportunity to cook me dem black-eye peas. (lol)

  13. Ahhhhhh.......feel like a new girl now. I am feeling good after my "spa day"! LOL Nope, didn't get the usual treatment that we are used to for "spa days" but I did get a great massage, manicure and pedicure. Oh, eyebrows done too, all courtesy of FF. I even got a free purse for booking so early in the year. The girl who did my massage was a tad nervous to go near my scar but I told her I promised it wouldn't bite! She said I definitely needed the massage and need more to loosen me up. I knew that before I even got there. She said I need about an hour a week for about six months. She asked if my husband could take an hour a week to do that for me. I said "Um, no". LOL Miss Wilma seems a little better since I came home, maybe she threw up what seemed stuck early this morning when she bolted off the bed like a tazmanian devil. She is laying on the window ledge watching birds at the feeder.

  14. Glad to hear Miss Wilma is better. Your spa day sounds lovely, MC. Can your doctor write you a prescription for weekly massages? I know therapeutic massages aren't quite as decadent as spa ones, but they would loosen you up just the same.

  15. Evening all!.... finally got the house back together today!....... the college ones have departed, and Hubbs and MIL are traveling to Savannah to visit family.....Cuddles and Abby have endured "hours" of vacumning and cleaning, and now we're enjoying some TV and snuggle time (well Abby is)... Cuddles is in her "bowl".....

  16. She was massaging your head MC? Hopefully this will help start the New Year off right, and you will be able to be surgery free and heal to full strength!

AV I know we are supposed to want to raise them and have them leave, but I sure don't look forward to that day.

  17. Slow cafe today.
I've been hanging with the boys most of the day and Bobby has taken 3 naps on my stomach which is nice since I'm freezing. No heat in the house and it's been near 40 outside. Brrr!

Waiting for the dumb hockey game to be over so I can go snuggle with GG and warm up. He still has a bit of his cold and I hope I haven't picked up anything from him staying there the last couple of days. Luckily I very rarely get sick. Now if only my hip would stop hurting to the point where I can't sleep and can't walk well, either :(

  18. ....SM!.... it absolutely killed me when Son left, but at least we had Daughter for 3 more years... then she left too, and I went through another period of mourning!... Now that they've been gone a while, (truthfully).... it's nice to have them home (just not all the STUFF!).... but it's somewhat of a relief when they get back to "their" lives!....once they're out there on their own, then "morph" into these *young adult* people.... they have their own rules (and own hours), and are responsible for themselves.... it's kind of a "changing" of the guard if you will!... I've got great kids - they are smart, kind and loving people... but I can't tell them what to do anymore, I have to trust that I raised them right and that they will make good decisions!.... (of course I'll give advise anytime - but of course I can't til I'm asked ;)

  19. Daughter has already decided to live at home next year. She can keep her job at the school that way. Although I think she will look to get a job on campus and when she finds one that pays as much she will move to the dorms.

  20. I only have the one. Seems most of my life I was identified as Mom first. Sometimes I think it is difficult to not forget yourself when your career is military spouse and mother--you are always the last on the priority list. I know that is part of the reason my hubby retired--he felt bad my career was always on hold because of the moving. I get to stay put for now and create my career. Have a feeling that will help the transition for me.

  21. SM, enjoy this phase of your life!... I'm sure you're an amazing teacher... and I do believe in my heart of hearts, that is a calling... both my Mom and Grandmother were teachers!... a noble profession, and very rewarding!

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  22. Afternoon everyone, slept a little bit after getting home. Daughter left for Lubbock this morning and should be almost there by now or within the next hour.

SM, its as AV says, enjoy this phase of your life, enjoy having raised your daughter to become a truly 'nice' human being with good sense and manners. The hardest part I found was realizing that I do not have the 'right' to tell them what to do or how to do it without their asking anymore. Oh and sometimes I do want to tell them how to do something, anything better, lol! I thank the heavens above, that we all had a wonderful enough relationship that sometimes they will ask my opinion and we both know that hmmmmm they may or may not listen to it...they ask because they know I am dying to say something!

  23. Amen Deb!....I think one thing I've learned from MIL, who I love dearly, is not to give "unsolicited" advise!... it only back fires on me and ends in bad feelings!..... sometimes I have to absolutely "swallow my own tongue" ... (or leave the room), so I don't break my own rule, but my relationship with my kids is much better/smoother if I do!.. they in fact, do actually impart more knowledge/information, usually without me even having to "hint" at anything! LOL.....oh if the old saying doesn't apply now!.... "if I only knew then what I know now!"..... but you still can't tell them unless they ask!....LOL

  24. Ah, AV, I am sure you are a great mom! You are a great person! I know from experience when I went to college is when I realized that my parents were real "people" and actually right on a lot of levels. It killed me to admit that, but it was true.

    Posted 2 years ago by mollycat71 #

  25. ....thanks (((MC))))... and please vote for Son when he runs for President in 2035!!

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  26. AV, oh yes!!! Sometimes I have to leave the room, go to the bathroom, feed the birds, refresh the cats water bowl, anything to just not say what I am dying to say, lol. Wouldn't trade my relationship with them though for love or money.

Posted 2 years ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  27. me too Deb!.... you and I are on the "same page"!!!
