Prayers, Please for my Gizmo

(123 posts)
  1. I am so shocked, Gizmo had a spa day today, the vet just called and said his bloodwork is not good, that he has significant kidney failure. I am crying and shaking and I feared this. He is such a sweet, good boy and I can't stand the thought of losing him. She said she was surprised he was still eating well. I go to pick him up in an hour.....can you please pray for him? Thank you guys SO much, I have seen the power of TDK prayer.

  5. {{{Katthays}}} Is anyone there with you, or is there someone you can call? I hate to think you're alone (except for us, of course).

  6. God, bless Gizmo and Katthays, and give them healing, comfort, and whatever else you see that they need.

Katthays, what led you to fear this? Had Gizmo shown symptoms of kidney failure before?

  7. Oh no, Katthays! I am praying for sweet Gizmo and for you. Please let us know.

  8. I know how frightening it is to be told a kitty-baby is in kidney failure, but try to stay calm until you talk to the vet. With proper care and diet, Gizmo may have a long time more to spend with you. There are so many more options then there use to be - the vet can help you make the best choices for your boy.

  10. I'm alone but have to pull myself together cos I have to go get him in 30 minutes, but I am going to feel like such an idiot, I can't stop crying. Leeny, 2 or 3 years ago, he had some bloodwork done and he had a slight elevation of his kidney function test, but the vet thought perhaps he could have been stressed, too. He needed his teeth cleaned so they did alot of blood work and the levels are really bad. She says it is up to him how long he has, but he must keep eating and drinking. My husband just called and he works in the town where Gizmo is so he said he could pick him up and bring him home. I love my hubs.

  15. See what the vet thinks about regular home administration of sub-Q fluids, Katt. That can help kitties with renal failure, and I understand it's not that difficult to give.

  16. Awwww sweet Gizmo, prayers for you and your Mommy and Daddy who love you so much.

  17. Thank you all....I will ask about the fluids, Leeny...he weighed 9.7 lbs and now is weighing 8 lbs. She said she was shocked when she ran the blood work cuz he seemed like such a happy cat and didn't look like a cat that was in that significant of failure. I know he will be on a script of dry food, like Purina NF, which I have had for other cats years ago. And she said to give him wet food, as much as he wants to eat. She also has a supplement she has 2 other cats on with the same problem. It is a rhubarb extract.....said the tests actually improved with the one cat....for real? I don't know, but I am willing to try anything that will help!

  18. Adding to the prayers for dear Gizmo. He will be so glad to get home to you.

  19. Katthays {{{hugs}}} for you, Gizmo and your hubby. Haven't heard of the rhubarb extract but if the vet has tried it, I would definately do so. The meds they have these days do help and they have vitamen supplements to help with the weight loss. Talk to Gizmo and tell him that you want him to stay here much longer, I honestly believe in talking to them and seeing what feeling(s) I get back from any of the crew.

  20. You all are so kind and caring.....I'm still a basket case, but Mo is home and though skittish at first, is sleeping on the bed, and purred up a storm when I laid next to him. I'm still so shocked. I did talk with him Deb, I believe they can understand. I am going to log off now, I will post his blood test numbers tomorrow. Again, thanks to all of you for your love :)

Geez, what a shock. Sub-q's are quite helpful and if I can do it, anyone can. However, watered-down food will help too.

  22. My prayers are with you. The diet change may help him recover some. I say never count a cat down and out--they can be so very surprising! Prayers of peace and comfort to you, spend time with your boy and know he loves you!

  26. Prayers and white light for Gizmo. Katthays I had a kitty with severe renal failure much worse that Mo and with administration of sq fluids he lived another year. Your kitty is in better shape and his disposition is very significant in staying well and it sounds like he is a sweet heart. [[[[Hugs]]]]

  30. Just logged in...thank you guys all so much for your caring thoughts! What is so weird, is that Mo acts and looks healthy. He ate last night, this morning he had his treats as usual, then his food. He even raced around a bit with excitement :) His BUN is 69 (normal is 10-30) Creatinine is 5.1 (normal is 0.3-2.1) PCV is 16% (normal is 25(?)) His glucose is 74, so she wasn't concerned about diabetes. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well last night, and I am weepy today, but that is just me, I'm a basket case if I don't get sleep :) ! For now, Gizzy seems happy and okay. He sure is eating and drinking enough. I just have to remember to enjoy him each and every day, and not think about what the future may hold! That is hard for me to do, but I have to learn to live in the moment, and really, that is all any of us has, isn't it? I am off to eat breakfast, then to get groceries. Thanks again!!!
