  1. I got my 9 week old kitten 1 week ago and she farts really bad and all the time. Is this normal or should i take her to the vet. I also cant sleep with her in my room so i leave her in the lounge room with everything she needs but she cries alot when i do this, is there any way to stop her from crying?

    Thanks for the help

  2. Kayla, she is a baby and she is lonely. If you can't let her sleep with you, do you have a nice soft unwashed tee-shirt of yours or a towel you have used that you can let her sleep with? It may be if she smells you, she will settle down.

Farting indicates gas and it depends on why and how long she has been doing it. Has she been passing gas for very long? Have you changed her food very recently? If you have some yogurt, preferably plain, try giving her a half teaspoon of it. It is excellent for overall digestive health (my vet had me give my cat some when her bowel movements stank to high heaven. It worked like a charm). If she is passing gas non-stop, come Monday I would call the vet and ask if she needs to be seen. She does need to be seen soon in any case, since she needs a general health exam and her shots.

  3. Yes, she is used to cuddling up with her mum and brothers and sisters so she needs company and warmth at night, she is lonely and probably a little cold. Lily has given you great advice above. You could also try a heating pad for her or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel (make sure she has room to move off if she gets too hot) and a soft stuffed toy or two in her bed. But best thing would be to sleep with her if you can, I have put little kittens on the pillow beside my head...

The farting could mean she is not used to the food you're giving her or it could mean worms or tummy upset. A vet visit to check everything is fine with your new baby is a good idea, as Lily says.

  5. Our Emmett, the little fellow in my avatar, farts a lot - it's a good thing he is so very cute! He has always had some digestive disorders and is very sensitive to foods. When he was just 9 weeks his little belly was very distended, so much so we rushed him to the vet. Xrays revealed he was full of food from one end to the other! The Doctor prescribed a special food called Hill's I/D. It helped tremendously. His little tummy slimmed down to normal within a week although we kept him on it for about 6 weeks. He eats like a little piglet! So we have to be careful to give him smaller meals, no easy feat with nine kitties in the house. For the last two weeks we've been using a digestive enzyme mixed into his food which seems to be helping a lot. We got it at a holistic pet store. It takes very little sprinkled on the wet food and mixed in well. Check their website: www.azmira.com

  6. Tee hee, all kittens attack your toes, haven't you ever heard of "bed mice"? I loved it when my kitties used to play with my feet under the blankets, we would have a session every night! You could try tiring her out with a laser light or some other kind of play before bedtime but I would go with the toe game, it's fun, and she'll soon settle down and curl up to go to sleep!

  7. Welcome to TDK Kayla and kitten. Your kitten is a baby just like a human baby, she is lonely and misses the comfort of her Mum and litter mates. Everyone has given you excellent advice above, and I agree with jcat, all kittens attack toes. I have five adult cats and they attack my toes if they move too, its just something they do.

  8. If you play with her right before you go to bed, you will tire her out and she'll probably just curl up and go to sleep with you. Try playing with a wand and feather toy, or just a piece of string that you drag around the floor. If she plays hard, she'll sleep soundly. (Don't leave the string where she can get to it - lots of cats will eat pieces of string, yarn, etc. and it can result in a very expensive vet bill.)

There's nothing better than waking up in the middle of the night with a warm furry purring kitten curled up with you.

  9. get a water bottle with warm water, wrap a towel around it, and it will feel just like her mom when she rubs against it! Or, just simply sleep with her. I would just sleep with her because it's just so cute how a kitten or cat curls up next to you! :)
