All went relatively well today. He said that I am doing far better than most at this point. He said that my body has been thru more trauma in the last six months than most people could ever experience in a lifetime. He is not surprised I am still weak and tired, quickly ready for a nap! My head is still well put together and no fluid filled pockets have formed. Actually my head kinda "caves in" where the surgery was. He said he is afraid we got to my head a little "too late" and that I may still have headaches the rest of my life. The surgery certainly stopped future disabilities but my brain may have been squished too hard, too long and too much for the headaches to go away entirely. He said it is the luck of the draw as far as them finding the malformation. DRAT! He said I have to wait another month before I can color my hair. Guess I will keep covering up all the gray. YES, I have a considerable amount of gray, my dad was gray in high school. My hair is naturally so dark they just stick out like sore thumbs. I will continue to heal, get stronger and improve for up to two years. That to me is a positive, though the headache I have today is NOT! Thanks again for all your prayers and support, couldn't have done it without you! (((TDK)))

MC,
You can follow my Great Aunt Mig into the hall of "tell the undertaker my hair isn't black enough dye it again" but if I were you, I'd embrace the gray.
I have had white streaks since I was 5 yrs old. Now I am silver with dk brown nearly black streaks. I spent several years fighting the gray because I did not want to scare my employer with the snow on the roof.
The effort was exhausting and expensive.

Ohhh Amy..not to belittle a headache but honey...this sounds sooo good in comparison to all we've read so far and the surgeries. I'm sure most of us were terrified that you'd not even survive that first surgery. I'm soooo happy you're doing as well as you are and hope you'll find ways to cope with the headaches. {{{Amy}}}
I agree with Ailuro....Gray is interesting and nature's play with creativity. I stopped coloring mine about 10 yrs. ago. =) -
YAY MC, this is wonderful news. Ah, don't worry about the gray, those are signs of 'experience' :-)
I didn't have much gray in my dark brown hair, but in the last six months, they've mushroomed. Mainly underneath the top hairs and at my temples. They sparkle like diamonds (lol). That's my story, dangit, and I'm stickin' with it!

Amy, so glad it was a positive report. I'll keep hoping and praying for an end to the headaches.

So so so so happy to hear of your progress, Amy. I hope that the headaches subside as you continue to get better. But such good news. We all love you, and you stay in my prayers--every night.

I'm glad you are doing well and that the NS is pleased. Maybe after you have healed some more he can refer you to a pain management center. It won't make the pain go away but you might learn some techniques to help you ignore it.

Such an improved report, Amy! I am so sorry about the headaches, but will continue to pray that they will decrease and eventually go away.
A have a friend here who's a hair stylish and you know what she told me to use to cover gray before it was time for color? Mascara! Just take the little wand and sort of paint your hair. If it's okay for you to use that.

MC, that sounds like a positive report, I'm sorry about the ongoing headaches part. You're one tough lady, that's for sure. You don't let anything get the better of you. {{{hugs}}}
I was finding white hairs(redheads tend to go white not gray) but eldest daughter Meegz put me onto organic henna. Mix the powder with hot water and it looks exactly like a fresh cow pat, smells slightly better. Gives my hair a really great natural colour lift.Posted 2 years ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

Your poor noggin has been through so much, can understand if it's grumbling a bit. How about nausea or numbness in your extremities? Hugs.

It's wonderful news that you are healing so well, Amy!! Though I wish the headaches could be better controlled-have you considered a pain management specialist? That is their whole practice and they have all the newest ideas. (((Amy)))

Yayyyy! I am going to be one of those relentlessly positive people (very odd for me) because I am quite sure that your headaches will improve and fade as the years go on and your poor brain gets used to being unsquished. I will not accept anything less for our Miracle Kid.
{{{MC}}} SO glad the news is good. You will beat those headaches. Bless you!
My mum went completely grey in her early 30s. I was so mean to her about it when I was a kid, I kept begging her to dye it because I wanted her to look like all the other mums. She stopped in her 40s and she has looked lovely (it's a real silver grey, almost platinum) ever since. It's very elegant... Now my younger brother is completely silver grey all over too...

Um, there is a pain clinic right next door to his office. We talked about it and he said if it doesn't clear up and seems like its going to be a long term thing, we need to come up with alternative ways to deal with the pain. I have an e-stim machine from when I broke my neck and a Physical Therapist I work with has shown me how to place the electrodes and the settings to use for pain management (non narcotic). He said these severe headaches will most likely only ever respond to narcotics, the pain is too strong to get with a simple Tylenol. He mentioned people who don't have the Malformation have no idea what intense, excruitiating pain one can have. I will second that, its pain I just can't even explain in words. I just pray and hold out hope that over time things will continue to improve. The nausea isn't as bad anymore, I do take Reglan, three times a day, every day to control it. Numbness and tingling all gone for right now. So half a million dollars later, I think I couldn't ask for anything more! :D

MC, remember that day at work that was so stressful you said you were convinced you would have a headache by the time you got home but you didn't have one? I hope and pray and am quite sure that those days will become more common, I think that is a great sign of hope. {{{MC}}}

MC!! I think the report is so positive! I think of you all the time and you are always in my prayers. Good job. Poop on the headaches. I do hope that they will get less severe as time goes on. You are such a brave person. MC the wonder woman, kind of like Wilbur the wonder cat. You guys just keep going! Big hugs to you and remember, there are people in Texas who love ya!

Of course you are doing better than most people after this type of surgery, MC! You're the Miracle Kid!! As CM says, it sucks monkey toes that your headaches are still messing with your head. I'm so glad you went ahead with the surgeries so there won't be any more problems. And YAY--no leaks!! :)
