  1. My year and a half old kitty has chronic constipation. I had great success with pumpkin for about six months but now he won't eat it. I have tried giving him milk, wet food, laxatone and not much difference. I would like to know if anyone has any idea what I could try next? I called the vet and they told me they could give him an enema.

  2. You did not say but this sounds like feline megacolon. Here is an article on diet.

Tell kitty he is in distinguished company. Dewey Readmore Books the library cat had this condition. He lived to a ripe old age.

  3. Great info Ailuro....The only experience I have had directly with pet constipation involved a puppy (years ago) and the vet recommended offering small amounts of mayonnaise. Probably due to the oil in it. Good luck with your little one. =)

  4. I haven't had to deal with it before, but mayo sounds like a good option! Thanks Karen!
DKG- Just making sure you know not to give kitty regular cows milk, this can cause BIG problems for kitty, very dangerous!!

  5. I read all of what you recommended and plan to take Whisper to the vet again. He was dissed by his mother when he was only 3 weeks old and left for dead. We hand fed him and have babied him all the way. He is a half pint in size and although a "mutt" he has all the characteristics of a flame point Siamese. I'm thinking this might be something congenital.

  6. Mother cats will often abandon a kitten if they sense he/she has problems. Maybe whatever ails Whisper was something he was born with. You have kept him alive for 18 months, which could mean extra care is what he needed. If he has some form of megacolon, there are a lot of treatment options. It could be that just more liquid or oil in his diet will do the trick.
