The maneki neko in china is a cat statue with one paw raised and means good fortune. It originated from the Japanese bobtail cat. Once an emperor visited a temple. In the temple, was a bobtail cat gooming itself. The emperor thought the cat was beckoning to him, so he walked towards to thank him for praising him. Just as he moved, a tree fell down where the emperor was standing before. He then thought the cat was a good luck symbol and thats how the Maneki Neko came to be!
