Four and a half month old kitten in heat?!

(3 posts)
  1. Hi everyone!

I am just amazed at my silly little Zuzu. She's behaving very differently today. She's rolling on the carpet, exposing her tummy and arching her back. She's grooming even more than usual, and she's rubbing up against everything. Is it possible she's starting to go into heat so young?

My goodness, she's just a baby herself! We are planning to have her fixed during spring break (Mid March) with our vet. What am I suppose to do with this waaay too amorous baby cat?! I bottle fed her just a few months ago, for goodness sakes!

She hasn't stopped behaving like this since I came home several hours ago. I just don't know what to think, or do!

    Advice?

    Thanks in advance,
    Little Zuzu's mommy

  2. It is quite possible she is going into heat. Kittens as young as 6 months can get pregnant. If she's not an indoor only cat, please make her one until you can get her fixed. Otherwise you might end up with a lot more kittens than you expected.

  3. Oh does this bring back memories!!! That always means a story and this one has the added advantage of being a little risque.

My Daphne went into heat at 4 months 20 years ago and no vet would touch her because they all waited until 6 months, or until the kitten reached a certain weight, in those days. She drove not only me but her 4 month old brother nuts. Poor little guy. Her pleas to him to "help" her out were painful to behold. Still, at some point, he had a glimmering of a notion and bit her in the neck like a real man. She assumed the position and he ... he looked at me and asked what he was supposed to do next. If I live to be a thousand, I will never forget the look of despair on her face when Bo let go and walked away.

That is when I started calling vets in the surrounding communities looking for someone to put me out of my misery. I finally found one in a near by farming community who was more accustomed to working with cows. However, she was a recent vet school graduate and hadn't forgotten her small animal training. Thus Daphne, Bo and I achieved peace.

Yes, get your kitten fixed, as soon as possible. Maybe she won't become a demented succubus like Daphne but why take a chance on that or kittens?
