Any other grapefruit lovers out there?

  1. I have always felt like an outcast in my love for grapefruit. I love all citrus, though. The Jamiacan dessert in this article sounds delicious!

  2. I love grapefruit but can't eat it any longer because of my bp meds :( The dessert does sound good, so I shared it with others :)

  3. Love grapefruit but as Deb said they interfere with lots of medications.
Checked out the recipes and my teeth hurt just reading the desert recipe but it does sound delicious.

  4. Yummy ! Ruby red grapefruit, cut in half, sprinkle a little sugar on it and it's a great start to breakfast. I do like grapefruit!

  6. Hmmmm...those recipes look good Dee! I haven't had grapefruit as often for I OD'd on them as diet staple in my teens/20's! Now with the new recipes they sound tempting again!

  7. I love our sweet Texas ruby red grapefruit. But like lots of you, I can only eat small amounts. I wish that I could remember exactly what I read and where, but I think that grapefruit interferes with the absorption of calcium. :-(

  8. Grapefruit is one of those things I hated as a kid but love now. For some reason, though, we never have them. I think they feel like too much work, which is silly.

  9. Be careful with grapefruit if you are taking any medications. It blocks the absorption of a very very wide array of medications (use google: grapefruit interactions with medicine). This effect can last up to 2 days after eating grapefruit/drinking grapefruit juice and can often cause the medication in your bloodstream to increase up to 4 times in your bloodstream (since it blocks the proper absorption) which can be very dangerous depending on the medication.

  10. I love mixing grapefruit juice with diet 7-UP or any lemon-lime soda or ginger-ale. It is so refreshing...especially in hot weather.

  11. I sprinkle my grapefruit halves with a small amount of brown sugar and cinnamon and broil them. Top with a cherry and serve: Deeleesh!

  12. I have to try that, Emma...that sounds great.

Living in Florida, there are many people who have grapefruit trees and end up letting the fruit rot on the ground or give it all away. I used to work with a woman who would give me bags of grapefruit and hand it over to me like it was vile...she just wanted to get rid of it. And it was the best grapefruit that I have ever tasted.

  13. Both MrKK and I love grapefruit. We bought some pink fleshed ones today (USA ones) - MrKK has been keen on them lately. He just sprinkles white sugar on them but I will mention Emma's cinnamon idea to him - he is a cinnamon junkie! My old landlady when I was boarding at university used to serve them grilled. I also love grapefruit juice but did have to avoid it for many years because of how it can interact with the contraceptive pill - when I stopped the Pill I went on a juice-bender!

  16. Juice or fruit--both are delicious.

  17. And I LOVE Fresca...the grapefruit flavored soda. Even Tom likes it and he does not like diet soda.

  18. I adore Fresca which is the only form of grapefruit I am allowed. Same reason that has already been mentioned-- it interacts badly with some medication I am on.

On a related note, am I the only person who finds differences in the way Fresca and colas taste depending on the container? I cannot abide Diet Coke from a can. It must be from a plastic bottle. Fresca is ok, in a can but I far prefer it from a bottle, too.
