My mama called me this morning. Her little dog, her third child, was sick all night and finally passed away early this morning. She's devastated. Please, prayers for Linda and white light to guide Odie to the Bridge? He was a little black and white Shih Tzu, and he's been my mama's heart for more than a year.

Thanks y'all. WWM, Odie was actually a little old man. :) My mom got him from my uncle's sister last year. She had kept him in a crate, because her husband was disabled and she didn't want him to trip over the dog. I told Mom this morning that the last year of Odie's life was the best one. He went everywhere Mom did, slept with her, and she spoiled him rotten. She even kept Vienna sausages to give him as a snack! He adored her from the minute uncle brought him to her.

She suspects he may have had heartworms, and has convinced herself that she killed him by being unable to take him to the vet for treatment, as she's been unemployed for a year. (Says she "neglected" him.) I sent her the Rainbow Bridge poem; it seemed to help her. I just hate that I'm 300 miles away from her, and the rest of my family's reaction has been variations on "It was just a dog", "He was old anyway", "Get over it". >:(

Oh, Bellantra, my Mom blamed herself (and still does) for the death of my her little dog last summer. We've tried to reassure her, but it was hard on her. I wish people would understand a loss of a pet is hard on a person. I wish you could be with her

SO do I, CTR. I called her pastor this evening, after I listened to her cry for an hour. He's going to talk to her tomorrow, and is getting one of her church friends to call as well.

Blessings your Mom and Odie and prayers that he has met with the Wolf and is in peace now. His last year was an enjoyable one, being spoiled as he should be and your Mom should be very proud of that.

Hugs for your mom, and for you for feeling bad about not being with her. You know, I've often thought that people who say "it was just a whatever" are so unlucky to have never know the love that can exist between pets and people. I'm so sorry that they miss out on that closeness even if there is pain when they leave us.
