  1. MY ADOPTED CAT MAYBELL GAVE BIRTH TO A SINGLE KITTEN AT 8PM LAST NIGHT. SHE IS NURSING THE KITTEN AND IS CALM AND COMFORTABLE. WILL THERE BE MORE KITTENS? WHEN DO I BECOME CONCERNED?

  2. Do you have a vet, if so I would call to make sure she doesn't have any more. I haven't had a cat with kittens for many more years than I can count, so I really can't help. There are others who may chime in with loads more knowledge than I.

  3. A single kitten isn't that odd, especially if mama is quite young herself and/or a pure breed.

If she isn't in pain and you can't feel any more lumps when you run your hands down her sides, she is probably fine. Call the vet just to relieve your mind.

  4. A lot depends on her age and the circumstances of her pregnancy. Singleton kittens are rare. It is best to have her checked by a vet to be sure she is well and all kits are delivered. Also it is the best time to discuss spaying Maybell while having her examined. Little bundles of joy may be joyful but they are expensive not only in terms of food, medicine and finding good homes but also the mom's health and safety.

  5. sorry I can't help on that because I personally have never raised cats at birth. I hope maybe some other people can help you. Also, congratulations! I hope you enjoy your kitten and that he/she is healthy and strong!

  6. You probably should consider taking her to the vet (the kitten too). My vet gave furry Lily a shot that ensured she had plenty of milk and made sure that she had delivered all the kittens. Still, if she is comfortable and acting normally, one kitten is probably it.

  7. MAYBELL AND KITTEN ARE DOING GREAT...THE KITTEN IS NURSING. WORRIED ABOUT THE KITTEN GETTING COLD WHEN MAYBELL IS OUT OF THE NESTING BOX SO I PUT A HOT WATER BOTTLE IN THERE

  8. Good plan. Remember to wrap a towel round the hot water bottle and leave room so that kitty can move off it if s/he gets too warm. I hope Maybelle is not spending much time out of the box. She should be spending most of her time in there with her kitten, or at least not far away.

  9. SHE IS STAYING IN THE BOX AS LONG AS I AM RIGHT HERE...IT'S A GOOD THING I WORK AT HOME AT DO NOT HAVE A GIG TILL THURSDAY NIGHT AND ALLREADY HAVE A SITTER..I HAVE NAMED THE KITTEN COIL BECAUSE OF ITS TAIL. MAYBELLE IS A PIXI BOB WITH A SHORT SPRING TAIL.

  10. Knotee,

    Just a suggestion.

I have encountered bboard members with physical challenges who use all caps typing. I have recommended to them that they switch to the e.e. cummings style of all lower case.

Using all caps in post is a sign of shouting and considered inappropriate. It also becomes difficult to read in longer posts.

  12. Hmmm. If she is a first-time mother, she may not be exactly sure what to do. 4- legged Lily was the complete opposite-- she was obsessive about her three kittens and was still nursing them at 8 weeks long after they were eating solid food regularly and should have been weaned. I am glad you are nearby and can keep an eye on things!

  13. it took my mom's cat 13 hours to have 3 kittens,
have your cat walk around and feed her wet food if she eats then she'll be fine.. usually when they dont eat is cause they have more and are in pain and cant eat,, also play with her, if she is playful there isnt anything to worry about lol
