  1. Hello TDKers!

I hope someone can help me out. It's been a while since I posted on this forum. My kittens have been thriving and are now 5 weeks old. However, I've noticed that one of my kittens has dried blood around his butt. At first I thought it was just poop that got stuck to his butt, so I would just wipe it off and not think anything of it. Then I saw it before it started to dry up and then realized that it was blood. Recently, while introducing my kittens to the litter box... I've noticed that they try to eat the litter. I've taken the advice of most kitten-care websites and went ahead and bought nonclumping clay cat litter. The actual bits of litter are pretty huge compared to the finer clumping litter I'm used to seeing. Could this be the reason why his butt is bleeding? I've done some research and found that bleeding can be caused due to having foreign objects in their intestines. It could also be worms... I'm taking my kittens to the vet in about a week to get their shots. Both of them are very lively. They eat lots and play with each other.

I haven't seen either of them poop in a couple days. Could this very well be a case of intestinal blockage??

  2. Hi, Lish, trouble is it could be a number of things -- worms, as you say, or your baby may have constipation and be straining or it could be something else, which might be a bit more serious -- so really the best thing is to take them to the vet. If I were you, I would ring the vet and see whether s/he wants you to bring them in earlier to check them out. If it's nothing, they may be able to get their shots at the same time. Best of luck!

And keep checking back, someone else may have better advice.

  3. Lish, this is an earlier thread on the subject: http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/topic/23600

Could your babies have picked up whipworm? (I don't think we have it in New Zealand so it's not something I know about.)

  5. Yes, take them to the vet as soon as you can, just in case. Also, please update us on your kitten!
