  1. I decided to knit a anatomical heart for my mom's electro cardiologist. He is very impressed with it and even more that I knitted it. The girl in the pics at the end is my sister, she came down to be with mom for the surgery too

  2. Wow, that is really impressive TKN. I'm sure that was the coolest thing anyone ever gave the cardiologist.

  9. How cool is that?

I bet any sick kids he sees would love it! How can you be scared of a knitted heart, all woolly and cosy?

  10. Ale, that is terrific. Really great looking, and I'm not all surprised the cardiologist loved it.
Have you considered knitting a person, organ by organ? You've done a heart and a uterus so far.

  11. That would no longer be knitting, MS, that would be art :) .

  12. Very cool! As an anatomy professor I totally approve. And I agree with MS, after the heart the rest of the organs shouldn't give you any problem!

  13. You know MS my sister said I needed to make a knitted stuffie (Stuffie was this huge doll that the childrens museumi n austin had to teach children about anatomy.)
TY PJ that is quite a compliment
Here is the pattern I started with and as you can see it had to be improved:

I ended up printing out anatomical photos and models to make my heart more accurate

I have also made a uterus for my gyno :-) she loved that

  14. I think that this would be a great teaching tool for kids too. You know the plastic hearts are used sometimes in a classroom--this is like poetic anatomy and I think that would really hook some students. Ever thought of teaching science TKN?

  15. I agree, especially since you color coded it! I think little kids would learn a lot from the soft models. Now I think your next project should be a pair of lungs. If you knit them in a loose, lacy style, then you could insert balloons and inflate them! I remember the uterus, that was very neat too.

  16. I have Sm but people tend to annoy me after a while and i just dont agree with the abstinence only policy, and if they asked I would tell em and I would get fired. So its not a good plan. I dont have my doctorate so I cant teach college level so I guess I will just continue torturing my elderly people an babies getting blood for my machines, bwaa haahaahaa >:)

  17. Well I am pretty outspoken in that regard too. Could have to do with seeing girls have babies at age 13. The politics can be overwhelming.

  18. yup I agree there Sm also you should hear osme of the things I have been told and asked by teenagers here at work...
Its just very sad that they have so little good info available to them it seems
