  1. HI..this happened 2 days ago..all of a sudden my kitten was playin and stopped and started salivating.....started hissing at me his mom and his sister...since then he has not eaten & salivated rest of the first day..now his salivation has stopped but he shakes whenever i feed him milk with a surgical syringe minus the needle :P..he has not eating at alll by himself...hisses at mother and sister and has grown very week..the mother is still cleaning her and stuff but he shakes & doesn't respond to his mother calls either....and will be found usually at the quietest place in the house...feedin him milk every 4-5 five hours...wat is wrong with him..BTW sister is doing just fine

  2. Okay, I just saw he's two months old so why are you feeding him kitten milk with a syringe? He should be able to eat wet kitten food -- have you tried putting it on a large plate and drizzling KMR over it?

But, basically, get him to the vet, ASAP. NOW, if not sooner. It's impossible for us to say what's wrong with him, but I would be very worried about this little one. Once they stop eating, kittens can go downhill very quickly.

  3. he is not eatin himself..hence the milk...like i said the vet took a look at him and said looked fine.....a friend of mine suggested tht he might have lung damage but the vet said looked ok..said something is bothering him ..has been 2 days dont kno wat to make of it...ne suggestions

  4. Try another Vet. Take him to an Emergency Vet. His actions are not normal in any way! He should have started eating wet kitten food at least two or three weeks ago. He may be hissing because he may be in pain. You didn't say what kind of milk you are feeding, cow's milk is not good for cats.

  5. Yes, get him to another vet. As DCH says, hissing and sudden behaviour changes are signs of pain. Not eating is another bad sign. Shaking can be a sign of neurological damage. He may have had a fit of some kind. He will not get enough nutrients on only kitten milk replacement if he's two months old and you say he's getting weaker. There are plenty of signs that something is wrong with this little one, a good vet will investigate and at least make sure he gets some nourishment in him. Did the vet do any blood tests?

  7. Where are you? What country?

Posted 2 years ago by jcat #

  8. Yes, I wanted to ask where you are, too. Is there only the one vet in your town? If not, call the other one. They are always on call or have some arrangement for emergencies. Of course, the ideal is to have an emergency hospital available but there have to be enough vets (and clients) to support such a facility. When there isn't, the local vet is always on call. The kitten must get help now! Please see what you can do to make it happen.

  9. He probably ate something and it may have lodged in his throat, if he was trying to cough. Salivating is a reaction. Some plants are toxic to kitties, he may have sampled one that has made him sick. Not to be harsh but he could easily die without medical attention. Human milk is not good for a kitten either. Their digestive system is not the same. I've seen kitten milk at the drugstore, the convenience store and of course at pet stores. You could also take wet kitten food and add a lot of water to it to make a soupy texture you could feed thru a syringe.

  10. Do you have goats milk or sheeps milk? Kittens can thrive on those. But he should be on solids by now. If you have a six month old niece, you must have access to baby foods. Pure chicken baby food, with no additives, no onion, etc, gently warmed may help to tempt the kitten's appetite. Smear a little on his mouth.

But I don't think the not eating is the main problem, if he's sick that's got to be sorted out first.

  11. Sorry, I thought I saw he was a couple months old but reading back I don't see you mentioned his age at all. How old is the kitten?

Posted 2 years ago by DancingCatHill #

  12. DCH, it says in the title he's two months old.

This is a useful site for pet first aid: http://www.petalert.com.au/faid/fa1.php

If you live in an area with noxious insects etc, could he have been bitten by anything? You do need a vet, I'm sorry, that is the only way you are going to find out what's wrong with him.

  13. You could also try online doctors they can't exactly give you a precise diagnosis but they can help some.

  14. I wonder if he may have had a seizure of some kind. After my bob had his, he was really scared and jumpy for a couple of days and wouldn't have anything to do with his brother. A seizure could explain the salivation and the gagging, too. When bob had his seizure, I first thought he was choking on something, too.

  15. I would agree with others in advising you take him to a vet as soon as possible. He might have eaten a poisonous plant or been bitten by a venomous snake or insect.

  16. Thanks guys .....i talked to another vet in the morn...have an appointment in da eve...probaly he might figure out wats wrong wid him...i can give him goat milk so ill change it to dat.....do i add water or should i just feed him directly...he is 2 months old....neways i am in pakistan so there are not many pet facilities out here....will give u guys updated on wat da doc says

  17. That's good news, Rex7T, and I'm glad you've got access to goats milk, that's great for kittens. Don't water it down or he won't get enough nutrients. I would still try giving him pure chicken baby food if you have access to it or a good brand of wet food, and drizzle the goats milk on top, and warm it up and try to get him to eat it. Or strong-smelling fish might tempt his appetite.

I think GD might be right, I think he may have had a seizure. I think if he had eaten something toxic or been bitten, he would have been more badly affected by now -- 2 days is a long time. I hope your little one gets better soon -- please let us know what happens with him as we will be worrying too.

  19. We hope so! Good luck! (No onion in the baby food, it's no good for cats!)

  20. sorry waz really buzy all day.....neways went to da vet hav bad news....he did the diagnostics and he concluded that he got scared from something..is dehydrated well he did inject him wid medicine and he also gave him a glucose drip....well he is sayin that he is not comin out of the shock...said its all up to him if he wanna come out of the shock otherwise he is gonnna die its all up to him..so im clueless on wat to do for him out of ideas here

  21. Same thing as you would do for a human, tender loving care. You don't say if he's still at the vet or if he's at home with you now. If he's at home with you, hold him close to your heart as often as possible, cuddle him, talk to him gently and encouragingly, stroke him loads and just sit with him. When you can't hold him, make sure he has a warm comfortable nest to sleep in (of your unwashed clothes would be good, so they smell comfortingly of you), with a stuffed toy to snuggle up to. Keep him warm, but not too warm. Keep trying to tempt his appetite with gently warmed, strong-smelling baby food and goats milk. Talk to him and pet him as much as possible, but let him sleep. Poor little boy. I hope that he comes out of this.

  23. It's terribly sad, Rex7t, and it's true that once kittens stop eating it's very hard to get them to start again, it's like they really don't want to. All you can do is keep trying with forcefeeding the goats milk and the loving care and hope that he comes through this, and prepare yourself that he may not. You are doing all you can for this baby, we know :)

  24. Oh this is really sad. I hope the little fella pulls through. Do keep us updated and Bless you for trying so hard.
