  1. LOL. well, it's better to have us all over-react than to be sorry later. when can we see pictures??

  2. Your English is wonderful, Luppi. I'm really glad if it's nothing serious, just keep an eye on her :)

  3. Why do you think she whistles? She walks around, meows, and then a funny whistle comes out of her. I'll be uploading pictures asap. Another thing i saw is that she is constantly wet around her bum, and i mean the fur around it and her legs, is this a sign of something?

  4. Very very bad news. I'm actually devastated.

I fed them this morning and this afternoon, and by the evening when i wanted to feed them they were in very poor shape. The two that were in best shape are allmost collapsed. The black one, which opened it's eyes first, i thought was dead when i first saw him. He sits unresponsively for minutes, not even blinking, he has the strength to suck out a little milk from the syringe but otherwise is barely breathing. The other one, which was whistle-ing had one of her eyes shut completely and stuck, like with some sort of puss. Now she has something brownish in the corner of her eye, but is otherwise still pretty lethargic. The other two ones are pretty much the same, very tired and barely moving, all the activity they seemed to have dissapeared.

On another note, i called a vet and she was like "What did you expect, this usually happens when they don't have mother's milk or formula". That was extremely bad for my morale, because goat's milk and enriched cow's milk is all i could offer and i took care of them around the clock, i wasn't really expecting a reaction like that.

The black one seems better after i fast-fed it two sirynges of enriched milk. I will say screw it and put a little minced cat vitamins in their enriched milk, i don't want them to die on me now.

This was unexpected, and i hope they don't die, but any advice would be appreciated.

  5. When all this is settled and done, please get yourself a new vet. She needn't have been so insensitive. *not happy with your vet*

Luppi, I think the kits have got the sniffles. older cats usually recover quickly when given proper care but in young kittens like this, especially those lacking antibodies from momma cat, it can be fatal. Ask the vet about antibiotics and keep them hydrated and warm. It's very important.

You've done a great job so please don't beat yourself up over this, regardless of how this ends. I'll keep you and the kittens in my prayers. Check back often because there are others here who are far more experienced than I am in dealing with young kittens like yours.

  6. Okay.

I had an emergency vet come over, and payed about 100$ (which is huge over here) for all my cats to be checked out. He diagnosed the black one with temporary asphyxia and the other ones with a milder form of the same thing. It seems like the water bottles were emitting too much heat combined with the heat outside (25-27 degrees Celsius, Romania is a HOT country in the summer and spring and a very cold one in winter) and this caused their circulation to clog up and blood to clot and make them lethargic. They are not cold, nor have parasites except flees, which i took care of by scheduling a de-fleeing as they say for next week, when they are old enough. He encouraged me to stay on the enriched cow's milk (powder milk for babies) with yolk and honey and lemon, and even put a little in the bowl so they can start eating little by little for themselves.

He also mentioned letting them walk around and get tired, then feeding them, then sleep, so they get adequate energy and prevent over-feeding.

My older cat is fine except some tartrum (spelling) on the teeth, but will need a through check-up once the kitties grow.

Well, i got the crap scared out of me, i called a vet, he took a look and said it's all good, at least for now. HOWEVER, any other opinions are greatly appreciated.

  7. Sorry it cost so much, but here you would pay way more for a house call. Glad that it looks like a minor problem. I will be sending all your babies healing energy and light. Little ones without their mama are very fragile. Love them, do the best for them, but if anything does happen know that you have been a hero. If all of them make it you can give yourself a gold star and treat yourself to something wonderful.

  8. One of them died this morning, half an hour ago. Not the black one, but the darker one, which i said had a whistle after her meow. I rushed to the pharmacy to get her Sandox or whatever as an antibiotic and i rushed her to the vet, he intubated, massaged, stuck wires into her nose so she could breathe, but after eliminating lots of fluid from the lung she passed away.

I have three more to take care of and i hope they don't get aspiration pneumonia as well. I shall try and teach them how to eat on their own, by licking milk slowly from a can cap, and combine it with alternative feeding.

  9. I'm so, so sorry, Luppi, that's dreadfully sad. Poor little one. These orphaned babies are very fragile and the odds against them are very great. You did all you could for her and you gave her all you could in the way of warmth, comfort, prompt veterinary attention and all of your love. She would never have had any of that without you. I hope the others grow stronger and thrive. Bless you for being there for them.

  10. Oh I'm so sorry Luppi. I know how painful this can be. My first ever kitten rescue was with a 10-day old who died from aspiration pneumonia as well. Like JCat said, you did all you could and that is more than the kitten would've had if you hadn't taken them in. I pray that things start to look up for you and the kitties after this. *hugs*

  11. I took them all to the vet, the three remaining, because they showed symptoms of a cold. Their eyes were stuck together with mucus, although they were not sneezing, i didn't want to risk anything. He gave them an antibiotic and some eye-drops and told me to feed them and keep giving them a little antibiotic tomorrow just in case, but the lungs sound okay.

    That's the news so far...

  12. So sorry for your loss, but you are doing a wonderful job and the rest of the babies are very grateful for your concern.
