tracking 8 week old kitten's elimination

(2 posts)
  1. I recently rescued an 8 week old kitten. I've had him for 4 days now, and haven't noticed any urine in his litter box. I read that since I'm using non-clumping litter, that it won't be noticeable. He's having regular bowel movements in the box, and he's very healthy. I felt his stomach for any signs of a swollen bladder, and I also checked every possible hiding spot in the room he's occupying now for any odors or stains.

Is the amount of urine a 8 week kitten expels too much to be noticeable in a litter box? He's very good with burying his poo, so perhaps I don't notice the pee in time. I'll be getting clumping litter in a few days to better track his elimination. Can anyone validate my theory on this? Thanks. =)

  2. Hi Doowop, welcome to TDK! :)
Why don't you sit around and watch him after his meals? Kittens usually eliminate after a meal and you can see for yourself if he's peeing alright. Clumping litter can be dangerous to kittens (especially in their "I want to taste EVERYTHING" stage of life) so I'd hold off till he's a bit older.
