  1. I don't think Benjamin's been eating his wet food lately... I wonder if he's bored with the type I'm feeding him? I have 2 different flavors of Merrick brand that I bought in bulk. Hmmm...

  2. He eats his dry food just fine though... it's Wellness kitten food...

  3. Some kitties prefer dry over wet food. Blackbeard changes his mind which he likes better about every 2-3 months he will either eat only dry or only wet.

  4. Good to know, thanks!

  5. Teaser is the cat I need to eat the can food--it is better for her, but she often refuses. She likes dry. She eats Iams for sensitive systems--the only thing she doesn't hork up. She has a hard time with food. Deuter eats anything he can get. His favorite treat is chicken liver. Sometimes you have to just try a few things to find the right formula for feeding--just don't change food daily as that will really upset their system!

  6. Jen, does he drink plenty of water? Important if he prefers dry food.

  7. PJ reminded me that a fountain works well to keep fresh water. Mine is always running and that is what Teaser likes.

  8. Jen, when Bobby was a kitten, he all of a sudden stopped eating his food. A couple of days later he got sick and it turned out the food was contaminated with melamine. I almost lost my baby to kidney failure.
A year later, he once again stopped eating the food I was feeding him. He then had a seizure one night out of the blue. Turned out the company had changed the ingredients in the food. After treating him for seizures for over a year, I started doing research - turned out this brand was suspected in both seizures and deaths among both cats and dogs. Bobby has been off the seizure meds since then and is doing just fine.

There may be nothing whatsoever wrong with Benjamin's food - you're probably right and he's just tired of it. I've learned my lesson, though: if Bobby won't eat something, I will stop feeding it to him!

  9. Harry's very fussy with his food, so I have to chaop and change between a couple of brands to keep him interested!

  10. Thanks yeah he was ok with this brand when it was mixed with his favorite Science Diet flavor... hmmm.

  11. Or he could just not be hungry, mine go thru stages of eat or don't eat. If it lasts more than a couple of days then I would worry and maybe take him to the vet or do more research into the food(s) like GD did.

  12. The melamine-contaminated food Bobby ate didn't get recalled til a week after he got sick. I knew it was the food, though.

  13. That's so weird. Thank you for the heads-up!

  14. Glad Bobby is ok!

  15. Maybe the heat? Mine are eating less wet food too, throwing a lot out, but they are eating the dry just fine. Who says they get to be picky? :)

  16. Hehe I know, right?

  17. He likes "Turducken" wet food by Merrick. I bought him two other flavors in bulk of that brand, but OF COURSE he prefers the one I got just a couple cans of! Too bad I used some of the other kind. I don't think I can return them now...

  18. Jen, I had a situation like that where George all of a sudden wouldn't eat a particular type of food and I was stuck with a bunch of cans. I found someone in our building whose cat would eat it, and in exchange the cat's owner gave me a bunch of cat toys her cat didn't play with. My point is, you may be able to find someone (or a group such as a shelter) who will take the food if Benjamin really won't eat it.

  19. Merrick Cowboy Cookout is not a favorite of my cats...Nightmare refused to eat it (he will eat anything now), Mikey won't eat it (he also will eat anything), and Milo wouldn't eat it.

A lot of people, including myself, constantly rotate brands and flavors of wet food. Nightmare rarely eats the same flavor of wet in an entire month. He just gets a constant rotation of any low fish/fish free flavors.

  20. My guys only seemed to like the Thanksgiving Day Merrick for some reason. I started off no/low fish for them, but they are picky eaters, and love the fishy stuff of course, so I do get seafood stuff for them more often now. Noticed no ill effects, luckily.
