  4. I don't understand. What is sertain ebreo? What did the vet tell you to do? What instructions do you have? Did he recommend a procedure or medication?

I am sure it was quite a shock. If you don't feel that you have enough answers make sure that you call the vet back and ask that everything be explained thoroughly. My prayers are that this can be corrected and that Sammy will have a long happy life with you.

  15. Some meds that are used are lactulose and cisapride. Pumpkin can also help. If this is the case here is some information--not much help, but understanding what you are dealing with helps.

  17. Health issues and life expectancy

The Manx is prone to a disease called “Manx Syndrome” which is given to a condition that is caused from their short spine. If the spine is too short, which often happens many different ailments can occur including spina bifida, bladder, digestion, and bowel problems. Other health issues include rump fold intertrigo and corneal dystrophy. The average life expectancy is 9 to 15 years; however, if they do have Manx Syndrome the average age is around 3 to 5 years.

  18. I'm so sorry about the vet's report. I was worried that you had a kitten with Manx Syndrome, like Owlwatcher was, when you said Sammy walked funny. A kitten doesn't have to be Manx for the syndrome to be present. If the vertebrae are missing the name applies

If he had been left with his mama, she would probably not have cared for him. Mama cats often know instinctively when a kitten has a fatal defect.

As hard as it may be to face losing him, if there's nothing the vet can do for Sammy, you will be showing him the most love to let him go before he is in pain. Sometimes we just have to deal with the pain of knowing a furbaby wasn't meant to be on earth very long. Perhaps you were picked to be his momma because someone knew you could give him a whole lifetime of love compressed into a short time.

  21. Sammy's Moma, I am so very sorry. It takes only minutes to become so very attached to a kitten. But sometimes there is absolutely nothing that you can do, and it was just not meant to be. Manx Syndrome is nothing that you could have changed or altered. But what you have done is that you have loved little Sammy. His time on earth may be short, and less than any of us would have wanted. But as short as it might be, he will know, and does know, how much you love him. I know that you don't want him to go, but truly it might be the best thing for baby Sammy. Love him, talk to him and send him to the Bridge knowing that he has been blessed by being so greatly loved.

  25. Sammy's Momma, I'm so, so sorry. Sammy is an absolutely beautiful kitten, no wonder you are in love with him. I'm so, so sorry to hear he has Manx syndrome, poor little darling. WWM and CBM are right, perhaps you were meant to have little Sammy because he needed as much love in his little life as he could possibly have and you were the right one to give him that. But I know how terribly bad it hurts when you love a kitten and you have to face losing him; my heart goes out to you. You and wee Sammy are in my thoughts. Sending lots of love and {{{HUGS}}} to you both.

  30. Poor little Sammy. Jessalyn, you're a wonderful kitty mommy, and it's not your fault little Sammy's got a birth defect. You're giving him love and that's the most wonderful gift we have to give! Sammy's a very lucky little boy.
