The pretty orange tabby crouches between Redford and Gizmo, all three watching the clouds over the Meadow.
"Now, that one looks like a flower," whispers Redford.
"Umm, that one reminds me of a mousie toy." Gizmo looks again. "Or maybe two mousie toys."
Lady giggles. "Amazing. It's a cat bed, you sillies!"
The Wolf walks behind the trio, lying in the grass to watch the three friends.
Lady turns, an orange ripple against the green grass.
"Wolf," she asks, "what do you think that cloud looks like?"
The great creature smiles. "To me it looks like three new friends, Lady."
Lady walks to the Wolf, curling next to him, and she sighs.
"Happy?" he asks her. Lady rests her small head against his rough shoulder and sighs. Nothing hurts Lady any more, and the Meadow is full of delights and surprises. She is so happy right now that she is almost breathless.
"The only thing I could ever want is my mama, and I know I will see her again." Her smile is radiant and trusting.
The scent of the long grasses, warmed by the sun, moves over the four companions. Redford lifts his head.
"Listen!" he says, as the wind brings the sound of the Brook, the rustle of leaves to them. The soughing of the pines at the edge of the Meadow is peaceful.
The four watch the clouds mounding in the blue sky, and birdsong rings throughout the Meadow.
Gizmo looks over at Lady. "I am so glad you're here!"
And Redford nods happily.
"We've been waiting for you!"
Lady is happy, warm, loved. And she and Gizmo and Redford rest next to the great Wolf.
All is well.
