About time!!
I am a lefty. However, the only thing I do lefthanded is write and hold my silverware. Everything else I do righthanded. I bat right in softball. Shoot right in hockey. Play guitar righthanded. I think there should be an advantage there somewhere - I don't see it though.

My kiddo is a lefty! I used both in preschool until they 'encouraged' me to use my right hand. Now I write and use my mouse with my right hand. I can 10-with either hand. And I paint left-handed. Broke my left wrist as a kid, so anything that takes force has to be done right-handed. Interesting article.

Lefties are also pretty lucky if we have to throw any punches. They NEVER see it coming - buwahahahahahahaha.
MeezerMama I can 10 key with both hands too and so could my mom (also a lefty).
My dad was born a lefty but they used to tie his left hand behind his back (this was a loooooooong time ago) and now he's a righty.

Well they didn't so anything so drastic as tying my left hand. But every time I would put a writing utensil in my left hand they would tell me to switch. Since I could use them both equally at the time, it didn't really matter much to me. I can still write with my left hand, but it isn't pretty. Legible, but not pretty. The kiddo is very left-handed. I felt bad for him when he tried so hard to be right-handed because that's how the other kids were. He's more adjusted to it now. His handwriting is still pretty bad, but what 8 year boy's handwriting isn't?

But Ginny, what does that say for those of us that use both hands? We're the only ones using our whole minds?

Lefties are also excellent forgers. I can copy just about anybody's signature. In addition, I can write upside down and backwards (both in cursive).

Well at least when I've got half-a-mind to do something, I still have resources left over :)

I truly do think the rise is due to the acceptance of lefties in school. I am 42 and in first grade my teacher tried to make me be a rightie. My father who was one of those lefties who had his left hand tied behind his back went storming down to the school and set them straight in no uncertain terms. He wasn't having it done to me after having gone through that himself. Even so, for my whole school career I had to deal with desks that were designed for righties, complaints by teachers about my handwriting, etc. I have to wonder though if those cultures whose writing was right to left instead of left to right (like english) had a predominance of left-handed people.

*hugs ppearson*
I'm 47 and I remember everything you're talking about. Those desks stank!!!!!
However, everybody says I have beautiful handwriting - for a left handed person. If that's not an insult I don't know what is. I know plenty of righties with ugly handwriting. lol

I'm pretty ambidexterous--as a kid, my best friend was a leftie, so I wanted badly to be just like her. Like you, Huddy's Mama, I was (and am) a great forger. I used to charge my sister to write school notes because she was always getting in trouble! We need to come up with some unique money-making ideas and put our talents to good use! Maybe I could start charging students at school to forge their notes. . .hmmmmmm, maybe I CAN retire early!
