Hi, HTT! My best guess is that your kitten is a bit scared by the new environment, and probably very lonely if he has been with his mom and littermates. You might try getting a nice soft stuffed toy and putting it in his bed with him. He would have something to cuddle up to that way. And you might try feeding him at bedtime to help him get through the night.
Welcome to TDK! I am also in Texas.

Cat's often sleep after they are feed or at least settle down, so feeding him before bed is probably a good idea. However, it'll take a period of adjustment for the kitten to learn not to wake you up. Cat's naturally get up early in the morning, around dawn, because in the wild that's when their prey is active. However your kitten will learn not to wake you up.

CATNIP!CATNIP!CATNIP! I get up earlier than most for work, so I need to be undisturbed at night. When they do the nocturnal animal thing, I know to give them catnip before I go to bed. They become nutballs for about a half hour, then fall into kitty comas (deep sleep) & are usually out for the rest of the night. I put it in a dish for them to sniff and eat, preferably wildcrafted organic catnip like MeowieWowie brand. Cat crack!

Congrats! Your new baby will settle into your routine soon. Definitely play with him before bed to tire him out, then have a snuggle to relax him. I think catnip is great to provoke play, but when they are a bit older- I think kittens probably have enough energy as it is.

Congrats and welcome to TDK!
Since your baby is so young, he may not respond to catnip quite yet. Most kittens don't notice the stuff until they are about 6 months old...and some never get into it! I agree with Pucca though...kittens generally have TOO much energy lol Catnip does not need to be added to the mix right now.
Make sure kitten eats and plays right before bedtime to tire him out. A full belly will settle him down as well.
Does kitten have a name? Do you have any pics of him? We LOOOOOVE cute kitty pics around here!Posted 1 year ago by roxysmommy #

When we first got my little Kal-El, the first few nights were HELL. I spent the entire time crying! After awhile it settled down but when he would play at 3am we would be up...which led to VERY grumpy parents! We started to realize his routine(sleep eat play sleep) and we played it to our advantage. We just so happened to rescue Lex from a abuse situation, they're best friends (it took awhile to get here), however when we shut the door they keep playing but theres no sitting at the door meowing. So if you can't seem to get the kitten to settle down, another kitten might be somethign to look at. We're lucky, both our kits have very specific routines so usually we can get them sttled down when we go to bed(when we change the litter they know its bedtime! however since you just got the little one, my best advice is cuddles and give it time. If you were plucked from somewhere and put in a room with a bunch of giants of another species, you'd be freaked out too!:P

Raffy has woken me up at 3 a.m. just about every night since I got him. He gets up, comes and licks my hand and starts wanting to play. So idiot that *I* am what do I do? I play with him until he goes back to sleep - usually right around the time my alarm clock goes off.

HTT, I promise you it will get better. I brought Roxy home when she was the same age as your little one and she was a freaking TERROR! LOL Cute during the day, evil at night :) I was waking up every couple of hours to her pouncing on me, clawing, biting, scratching, meowing etc etc etc. Now at 5 months old, she has been sleeping through the night (well, 6AM) for about a month now. She curls up with me when I go to bed about midnight and about 6AM she gets restless so she goes out and starts her day in the living room. Sometimes when she decided Meowmy has had enough sleep, she tries to wake me up as well :) That's why Meowmy keeps furry mice and playtoys under the "spare" pillow so Meowmy can throw them for Roxy while still half asleep!

Rotley woke me up last night, softly pawing at my face -- claws out -- and making these tiny "kitten" sounds.
Ruggles decided to pull a Joan Rivers ("Can we talk?") and complained at the top of his tiny lungs about life, his brother, and the economic downturn.
Right now, I would give ANYTHING for a solid hour of sleep in the nighttime!

Thierry likes to come visit at 5:00 am. I ignore him completely and he settles down, perched on my hip and kneads me and purrs me back to sleep. Cats recognize patterns of behavior. My advice is just to pull them close for a hug and cuddle and go back to sleep. If you get up to feed them or if you play with them it reinforces an unacceptable pattern of behavior.

KYKAT i am in eactly the same position as you except i have two little kittys terrorising me at 3am instead on the one lol and they get each other all excited but i found that if you warm up there blanket and give them a cuddle and put them to bed when you are going they seem to sleep 50% of the time! if all else fails put a toy in another room and hope they decide thats more fun than pawing your face!

I'm telling you guys...put toys under your pillows...and then throw them when kitties are being too playful. Chances are, they will attack the toy and leave you alone for awhile! :)

Sam wakes me up every morning at 3 am for his snuggle time. Sam is over a year old, and he hasnt missed a single night since we got him. He'll come and sit on my chest, and gently - no claws, paw me on the cheeck, or lick my nose untill I wake up. And then I have to snuggle him, hug him, kiss him, hold him tight, for a good half hour and then he'll be happy as pie and leave me to continue sleeping.
