  1. It is a new month with some new goals along with fine tuning the old. Where comments of being "fat" from the peanut gallery dont't last! We are on a mission to get fit, keep healthy and be happy along the way. Thanks kits for your continued support on this topic. A new month has begun for us to keep going in the right direction!

  2. So I finished August off at the gym and plan to continue with my 3x's per week schedule along with walking to w__k and yard kp while the weather cooperates. Healthier eating plans still on the menu along with occasional treats thrown in! Come on and share your plans for the new month!

  3. Thanks JK ! I finished August at the gym/hula. The bruises will heal, and healthy eating is the goal. Now, where did I put my water bottle??

  4. Went for a great swim on Sunday, excersize on Monday and Yoga on Tuesday. My arms and abs feel like they had a good workout! I am also going to do a better job at eating proper portions of food.

  5. Here goes nothing! Another month closer to the 1/2 marathon. Gotta kick it up a notch. Wouldn't you know my coworker brought me bagels from Panera today as September is Chiari Malformation Awareness Month. I am walking in a 5K on Sept 18th for Chiari. Wear a purple ribbon in support if you can! :) Happy Health one and all!

  9. I am failing miserably at my attempts to get in shape. Looks like I am up 20lbs. I can't quit snacking. So darn much food everywehre at work! Not to mention I ate nonstop with my mom last weekend.

  10. I finished August off on a good note. Biked 51.2 miles Sunday, but my butt and my padded bike pants didn't get along, so I swam 1000 meters Monday, 1350 meters Tuesday and 1000 meters Wednesday. Today I did 20 miles on the stationary at the gym, followed by 20 miles on the "real" bike on the road.
The exercise is making me tired!!! I'm trying to eat well, but the biking is taking so much time out of my day and with work and pet-sitting, friends and GG I don't have much time to be creative with eating. So, trying to keep it healthy, I'm pretty much living on granola bars, muesli, Greek yogurt, nuts and hummus. I really need to find something else to add to the menu!

  11. I hear ya GD, my trainer says I need to expand my eating but I like what I like and am not very experimental!

  12. Sorry your eating isn't going well, MC. It's hard when there are all kinds of tempting things around, that's for sure. My treat these days is a Skinny Cow 100 calorie ice cream at night. It's a nice reward for being good during the day, but not really that bad for me.
As for eating, I'm figuring if I'm doing all this biking, I want to at least be rewarded by losing some weight doing it - and if I eat junk all day, I will undo all the good I did working so hard on the bike. My goal is to lose 8-10 lbs. - and stay there!

In trying to eat healthy and getting more protein (hummus and Greek yogurt) and not just eating bread for a meal 5-6 times a day, I have really boring food choices at home. I need to find a day when I'm not busy and cook up some chicken to use for salads, a sandwich, whatever during the week. I was supposed to be done dog-sitting for now, and all of a sudden, I have 3 gigs this weekend! The yogurt I can take with me to work and the hummus and crackers and cereal at home is fast and easy. I just can't find the time to do anything else right now. Probably should at least pick up a few cans of tuna, though!

  13. GD - do you like celery and peanut butter? Combine them and they are a great snack. Cut up the celery and bag it in 3 oz bags, (serving size) and have peanut butter to dip them in. Good protein.. :)

MC - snack foods are tough to leave alone; but the longer you eat healthy the less desirable the junk food will be. I was actually able to say no to a donut the other day.

Make sure you are eating enough calories... too few and your body thinks it's starving and holds on to the fat... and with working out, not enough protein and you start to burn muscle instead of fat.

We can all do this... it's not always easy, but it's worth it.

  14. Yuck to both celery and peanut butter. I know I'm a picky eater! :)
    Yummy cookies!

Today I swam 42 laps at the pool and followed that up with 28 miles on the bike. Tomorrow I'm taking the day off. (From exercising, that is - still have to go into work for 5 hours and pet-sit at 3 houses).

  15. So today is my day off. I should enjoy that, but I'm feeling guilty for not doing anything!!!

  18. I could benefit from a few more articles like this one. My biggest problem is just unhealthy choices that lead to loss of motivation and then the cycle begins. I try to walk a brisk 30 minutes almost everyday but lose the benefits by eating ice cream and french fries and no protein. I like articles that tell me how to reverse some of the setbacks.

  19. I'm staying on track so far and it's been paying off. I felt great biking this weekend. Rode 65 miles on Sunday and 40 miles yesterday. Swam 42 laps today. Taking a break from the bike and swimming till Thursday.

  23. Not only is olive oil good for the insides, it nourishes the outside too. For those that have really dry skin,(esp in winter), add some olive oil to your daily moisturizer, and also in your body wash. Don't worry...you can't smell it as most everything is scented anyway.
