Hello i was looking throught my big shed that has a lower level and i heard kitten cry's when i came out there at 10:00 PM i couldn't find the kitten in the basment level of the shed. I left and came back an hour later and it took me about 1 hour to look for the kitten in the night time with a flashlight. I finally got the kitten cause i new there was no mom because it is so hard to get down to the basment level of the shed it is about 10 FT down from a regular level. And it would be impossible for it to get out. I got it out and climbed out. I noticed it was very small and kind of weak. I took it into the house and its eyes look a little weird right now because there not clean. I found a little kitten bottle and fed it some regualr milk because i think it has been down there for almost 2 days. I knew if i didn't feed it , it would probably died tonight. I fed it 15 ML of regular milk and put it in a box with allot of warm sheets and tucked it into the sheats. So it would be warm. Now the problem is i dont know what to do since the mom isn't around right now. How much do i need to feed it? The kitten walks after me when i set it down crying and walking towards me and soon as i fed it it felt better and didn't meow or cry .and one problem i think i have already is its eyes look kind off weird they are open but look like the kitten has gotten some things in its eyes. i am wondering how to clean its eyes. I want to go buy special eye drops for it, can i also clean it with a warm cloth to clean its eyes a little? Please help i really need some help right now. when i tucked it into bed it calmfully rested and put its head down on the sheets but when i come out to check on it it looks at me and everything. I think the kitten is about 3 weeks old.

Cows milk is pretty rough and is a very last resort. Here is a recipe that is a wonderful replacement for kitten milk.
One envelope knox unflavored gelatin should be mixed in 12 oz. boiling water. Then add the following ingredients-
1 egg yolk
1 table spoons light corn syrup
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 12 oz. can evaporated canned milkMix all the contents in a mixer to get dissolved completely. Store it in a refrigerator in a covered bowl. You can keep this stuff for seven days. It adds between 15-20 grams on kittens a day.
This gloop recipe finds it way in saving more than one sick or orphan kitten. I heard wonderous stories from the owners used this recipe for their cats.

I think kitten should survive through the night since i gave kitten something to eat, which was that milk. I looked at kitten and he is sleeping and looks very relieved. This forum is atleast useful to me now. i will probably be socializing on here and post some pictures of my own current kitten family and the one that i have found. Please wish me and the kitten luck. Im so relieved to atleast see the kitten in a better place then it was in about 2 and a half hours ago. And had something to eat.

Hey I also have a young kitten too, a girl [we think and hope]. She was found in my a warehouse that my boyfriend works at. No mother in sight, but she seems pretty healthy, if you go to my most recent post, you will see quite a bit of helpful advice that has helped me. If you have a Petsmart near by I suggest going to it and having someone help you that's what I did and the woman helped me out and it was really nice and I feel like the kitten is doing much better now. Also at petsmart they have kitten formula and a bottle to be used to feed your new kitten. But the sheets were good, try a towel too since they can be fluffy. Eventually [I need to do this, and plan to tomorrow] a heating pad should be added wrapped in a towel in the other side of the box so he can be warmer, and if he gets too hot, he'll move off. But for now, I think he'll make it through the night, I think tomorrow looking around for the mother too when it's daytime will be good, since I bet the mother accidentally left him. Good luck!

Hi, TP, welcome to TDK, you're a champion for rescuing this baby one!
If your kitten is two to three weeks, it needs feeding every four hours (more if younger). It needs, in all, 8 cc (ml) per ounce of body weight per day, spread into several feeds. Don't forget their tummies are very small and yours has probably had nothing in it for two days. Plus the milk you have given it is not suitable for it, and may cause diarrhoea. Please make up some glop (the links I'll give you have many recipes, one even uses homogenised cows milk but with added things for extra richness) and try to get some KMR as soon as you can.
As well as these sites, click on the pink tag 'orphans' in the top right hand corner for heaps of previous threads on hand-raising kittens. We will try to answer any questions you might have (though we are not vets). Your kitten probably has worms and if they have fleas, that can be life-threatening. You need to take the fleas off with a flea comb (or a bath in Dawn liquid if they are very bad, but I would wait until kitten is stronger before you do that as above all you do not want to chill it).
A heating pad or hot water bottle wrapped in a towel will help keep kitten warm. Make sure there is room for it to crawl off if it gets too hot.

This is the kitten glop recipe that uses homogenised milk, in case you don't have evaporated milk in your cupboard:
Formula #2
8 ounces homogenized whole milk
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoon salad oil
1 drop liquid pediatric vitamins (optional)Mix well and warm before using. Keep refrigerated.
Only use egg yolks, not whites, egg whites are not good for kittens.

Thanks Everyone.

The kitten looks like it is much healthier but its eyes were both open yesterday with a little mucus in them. And today in the morning i tryed to clean the eyes but only one eye is open and the other one looks like it is stuck with mucus.

Welcome to TDK... Thanks for saving the baby! As far as the stuck eye goes, if you hold a damp cloth on it for a little while you may find it will loosen the crusties, and allow it to open again... And a vet visit to get them checked out might also be in order as soon as you can. The KMR is great stuff, if you can get it, but the gloop works very well too... Get sleep when you can! Are its ears fully opened yet? Look forward to hearing how it is doing! Good luck, and stay in touch!

Im trying really hard not to give up on this. I want to help the kitten grow big and strong. The kitten after i feed it he still continues to cry alot when i set him down he goes around the room looking for something, he continues to cry allot but when i put him in his box after a couple mins he is quiet and sits there and when i come in he starts to cry again i pick him up and hold him to my chest so he can get warm but he still continues to cry i managed to get both of the kittens eyes open i washed them with a cloth and warm water and after i did that alot alot of yellow stuff came out of the kittens eyes but both eyes are opened now since i helped it. I washed its but also with a cloth and when i was washing it he quieted down alot.

ok, a few things i can comment on :) about him crying a lot, they are just like human babies. They need to be burped after feeds so they dont get cramps. I usually rub their backs with 2 fingers in a circular motion, and they usually burp within about a minute. If a burp hasnt presented itself by then, there isnt one to be had.
He's also probably lonely, and looking for something warm to snuggle, like he would do if he had a mom and siblings. Try getting him a fluffy toy, and a hot water bottle or heating pad to sleep on. Just make sure he can get away from the heat if he gets too hot.
About the eyes and the yellow stuff coming out, that doesnt sound too good. Try cleaning his eyes out with salty water to kill any bacteria in his eyes, but if the infection gets worse please take him to the vet.

Okay i just cleaned his eyes about 20 mins ago and they seem allot better then not yellow puss no more or any puss. when i pick him up he purrs. i think its actually a Girl. I think it will survive it is much much better then day one. I will put a little toy or something so he can snugle with.

TP: welcome to TDK, I think you're doing a great job with your kitten already, and the sites people have posted are very helpful, they've helped me enormously. My girl does that too I am also raising a young kitten, I find that usually Duchess [her name] is meowing more for the attention because she is lonely since it's only her now, and not her littermates, and sometimes probablyfor her furry mom. But for the most part, she settles down after eating, a little walking and exploring and some more food. But that's just what I find. But the toy thing is a good idea, along with the heating pad. She loves sleeping on it and she will move off it. Have you gotten KMR to feed him with? Anyway good luck, and I hope all goes well.

The little one does look so so much better and he stops crying a purrs alot when i put it on my chest. I am going to do that heatpad thing tomorrow.

How did the heating pad work ? Mine is starting to purr too. It's so adorable hearing her purring as she settles down to sleep or rest.

Now today my little ones eyes are both open they aren't closed like yesterday. I insulated her box with allot of warm things and she is happy but i played with her outside for about 30 minutes she isn't tired at all! she still kinda meows when i put her in the box and leave her but she quites down. she always wants me to pick her up :) then is very calm when i do.

I have also noticed she has little fleas? since the kitten is so young what do i do? if i bath the kitten in warm water with soap will that kill them off the fleas?
Posted 1 year ago by Twistedpwnsj00 #
-
Yes. You need to get the fleas off because they can cause anaemia in young kittens and even threaten their life. A short warm bath in the sink with Dawn is the way to go, but please towel her off as quickly (but gently) and well as possible and put her down on a heat pad or hot water bottle wrapped in a towel as above all you don't want her to get chilled, kittens are not good at regulating their own body heat. A flea comb every day is also a good idea.
Were you able to get KMR for the little one or are you feeding her on glop?
-
i have already bought KMR milk the 8ML one right now there is still allot i can use for about a week. then i will buy more but i am worried about the fleas? can i clean the fleas of tomorrow? because since it is so late and i have to go to school tomorrow in the morning?? will it be okay till tomorrow?

My goodness, TP, you have your hands full! Take piccies of the little one now, at least for yourself, they are so cute when they are teeny tiny and they grow so fast, you forget how tiny they were. I don't have piccies of my Libs as a very young kitten and I wish I had :-)
