I have been asked to speak on Chiari......

(71 posts)
  1. and I am nervous. My personal trainer is hosting the Chicago Area Professional Personal Trainers conference this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Her mentor (and friend to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jack LaLaine), the director of the International Sports Science something or another wanted someone inspirational to speak to the group and inspire them. She told him she had just the person: ME! OMG! ME!?!?!?!?! I am honored and humbled but certainly don't feel like I can inspire a group of gym rats. She wants me to discuss what Chiari is, what the deficits are, what I went thru and what I have accomplised thus far. Wow, I need a morale boost littermates. Not sure I can do this! Please, come with me in spirit and support me! =^.^=

  2. MC, are you crazy!? OF COURSE YOU CAN DO THIS! You battle a rare disorder everyday and grit your teeth to get through other days and you don't think you are an inspiration to others? Your trainer is way cool to recognize all of your hard work! You can totally bring more attention to Chiari by speaking to this group (especially if there are going to be big-wigs there!). It'll be a great way to educate folks and meet new people who will be more than willing to support you.
And just to be sure you do this, I'm going to stand behind you with my pretty whack-bonk stick and everytime you look over your shoulder like, "I can't do this!" I'ma gonna wave that stick at you! LOL :)

  7. That's AWESOME, Amy!!! You bet you can do it - and your trainer wouldn't have asked you if she didn't think you'd be the perfect person for this. You've come so far - be proud of yourself!

  9. Amy, you've been an inspiration to me just hearing of your struggles through this medium. You will be a sensation in person! I wonder if it well be taped and maybe even broadcast?

  10. Amy, you will hold them in the palm of your hand, totally spellbound, as you do with us. You have a great way of explaining how you and Chiari interact. Your trainer obviously recognises just how perfect you are to talk of Chiari and your daily struggles with it. You'll be wonderful Amy.

  11. MC, you can do this. You can do this well. You can do this fantastically!

Every single person you tell your story to, everyone who learns about Chiari from you is one more person who is no longer ignorant about this condition and is one more person who just might help someone else recognize symptoms and urge them to get the needed medical care. Amy, you can most likely help alleviate someone else's suffering by making sure you share your story!

You will be awesome. You don't need to do anything but be yourself, tell your story, and thereby be a great influence for good. You go girl!!!

  13. About 1 month ago you posted and article stating that it had been revealed that Roseann Cash was a member of the group of Chiaria Malformation patients http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/topic/29103. At the time, we (with you) were disapointed that she is unwilling to put a face to this afliction. This is your chance to take up her slack. Sure, you are not a celebrity, but you are far braver and will make a fine spokesperson.

  18. MC, not only CAN you do this, but you will do it beautifully. Who better to talk to these people than someone who is living with the disease. You can bring the face of Chiari to them so that it is not just a disease in their anatomy and physiology books. Just be yourself and tell your story. You will do great and you will bring understanding to many people who might not have ever given much thought to Chiari. I am SO proud of you!

  22. Oh wow MC! Best of luck on speaking!

  23. I think you will do a marvelous job! You can share with them about the disease itself, your personal experiences with diagnosis, treatment and living with the condition and let them know things they can do to help. Consult with your doc at the Center in Milwaukee and ask what information he thinks it is most important to convey to this group of professionals.

You are awesome, so you will do awesomely well!

  24. Just had to come back to this thread. Sometimes I h ave trouble not relating or hijacking a thread so I will just say this how its the easiest for me without going on too much about myself. I think its amazing to get to speak about a topic that is a part of you. To talk about it and show what you have gone through without making it seem like this is something that has dampened your spirit or resolve. I know from experience its easy to want to tell people about how horrible and rough it is, and they need to hear that too but they need to know its not the end either. I think you are an amazing person who can do just that! Good luck and know that we are here wishing you the best. Lots of love and white light!

  25. MC!! Of course you can and will do this. Now, have it taped, and then send the tape to the Dr Oz show... see if he can't get you on there too... continue to spread the word. I have talked of you to a nurse who had never heard of it... one by one, we are educating the world because of you. So very very proud of you - and SO looking forward to meeting you in person in October !

    Got get 'em girl !!!

  27. I can't even believe you would doubt that you can do this. Look at how many people you have talked to about it here. We will be there with you in spirit I am so proud of everything you have done, gone through and going to do...you are an inspiration to me and I know others. The more you share with people the more hope you give to everyone...knowing what you have gone through humbles me.

Stand proud, tall and know that the cats are standing at attention waiting to hear you.
