  1. My five year old long haired cat has lost a lot of hair on his tail. I don't notice that it's anywhere else and he doesn't appear to have a problem.

  2. Could it be allergies? Cats can have allergies to a lot of things just like people. Food, environment, etc...

  3. this just happened to my kitten ( about 6 months old) We are off to the vet today for his shots so I'm going to ask what they think it is. Its by the base of his tail on the underside as well as a small patch on his tummy& like you said everything else is normal. I did recentlyish switch their food from Purina ONE to Iams so my guess as well as FFS50's is that it is a food allergy but I will start a new thread after the vet with my update.

  4. Thank you for your responses. He has been on Science Diet food his whole life and doesn't get outside if I can help it. It appears to be just his tail has gotten skinny instead of his normal fuzzy flag.

  5. Here is a video/article about feline allergies: http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2009/07/02/does-your-pet-have-allergies-what-you-need-to-know-and-do.aspx

There are a lot of allergens in Science Diet...the majority of health problems tend to be due to food.

It could even be lack of animal protien (cats are obligate carnivores, Hills (the makers of Science Diet) don't care about that fact. Or he could maybe even need more fatty acids...here is another article about that: http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2009/05/04/the-frequently-missing-ingredient-in-your-pet-s-diet-that-could-devastate-their-health.aspx?aid=CD945
