  1. Emma, at least look up the number of your nearest emergency/24 hour vet so that if something happens out of hours, you have that information on hand.

  2. This thread is upsetting. The poor cat needs to get to a vet. she must be in pain and who knows what is going on. If God willing she recovers, I hope you are able to spay the poor thing when she is healed. There are tons of low cost places out there. My condolences on the baby.

  3. Skyron and Jcat have some of the best experience on this site and everyone else has given great advice. Please Emma, put yourself in Bailey's shoes. If you really care about her well being, you will not wait to take her to be seen by a vet. Even if Bailey is OK and there is nothing wrong with her it would be better to be safe rather than sorry. I know you love her but it's important that she been seen to make sure the dead kitten didn't hard her in any way, shape or form. Please keep us updated AND take her to the vet. Use the links BC gave you.

  4. Oh no! I'm so sorry about the baby =( But I have to say, as everyone else. you should definitely try to get your cat to the vet as soon as possible. I understand when money is tight you want to make sure its the right thing to do,and not a waste, but these are very very knowledgeable cat people here and if you want Bailey to be okay it is better if you figure it into your budget so she can go and be safe and healthy. I'm sorry that this happened, and I sincerely hope your cat is okay.

  5. You all make it sound so easy to just take her to the vet, I want too. I would love to get her checked out so I could calm myself down, but I don't have money, I'm not rich and my mother isn't supporting my finds like I wish she would. I have no transport to get anywhere and I'm not going to freak my cat out by using transport, or walking to the closest vet which is two to three hours away by foot. I'm not a bad owner, I don't starve my cat. She's well fed, she has a nice life. I'm just not prepared for something like this to happen. Yes it was my fault I put her through this by not taking her earlier to get her spayed. I already feel so damn guilty as is. I know you're all trying to help, and I'm happy for that..

  6. Emma take a breath. You came seeking help. People are trying to tell you that a vet is the very best help. Someone suggested calling a vet. You may not get a wonderful answer over a phone, but under the circumstance without any income it maybe the best thing you can do. NO ONE is suggesting you are a bad owner. They are trying to help you. Many of us have been in a situation where money prevented vet care. Pick up the phone and call a vet and see if they can assist you. Explain you situation--there are times that they maybe able to tell you something to look for. The biggest concern is that another dead kitten could be in the womb and that could cause the cat to be infected and die. Perhaps a vet can tell you what the orange substance is, or what to watch for--you certainly have nothing to lose by placing the call. Prayers that this issue will resolve and you will be at peace able to enjoy your wonderful furry friend.

  7. Emma, I know it's hard when you're young, with no access to transport or money. I'm an SPCA volunteer in NZ and I know that our local SPCA will help as much as they can to stop an animal suffering and I hope it would be the same in Oz. Check with your local SPCA to see if they can help you in any way -- with costs or with transporting Bailey. In NZ, the office closes at 4pm (though there is an emergency ambulance number) so if I were you, I'd do that now.

Another thing I can suggest is that you ask your mum to read this thread (or print it out for her) so she can see that it's not just you clamouring for something unnecessary but that we are all worried about your kitty. Could you maybe come to some arrangement with her if she agreed to help pay just this once, like offering to clean the oven every month for a year or mow the lawns or something? Don't feel guilty, there's no point in that at all. Let's just try to solve the problem. We are all worried about Bailey.

And let's try to solve the problem within business hours today because if you have to call an emergency vet or an out-of-hours clinic, that is going to make everything much more expensive.

  10. Veterinary advice: RSPCA Australia is not in a position to offer veterinary advice. If you have special queries relating to your pet's health, please seek the advice of a veterinarian, or check with your state or territory RSPCA as they may operate a veterinary clinic nearby.

RSPCA in Australia have no care in the situation and more care for native or endangered species. So I rang a vet who's close to me, explained everything and they said it sounds like she still has a kitten inside her that's undeveloped and to keep an eye on her. They said it sounded like sick kittens and there's something wrong with her cycle, they said she sounds okay, but to bring her in if she turns for the worse. And right now she's sleeping, purring and was eating and drinking earlier.

  11. Yep, Emma, that's what I was thinking, that you would ring your state SPCA as they may have a nearby veterinary clinic. RSPCA Australia is the national body. I was hoping your local SPCA ran a vet clinic.

But you did it, you rang a vet and get some good advice, and solved the immediate problem. I'm so glad. Let's hope that little Bailey keeps on going good for now. Did they expect her to expel the undeveloped kitten or continue with the pregnancy? Whatever, I hope you feel a bit more reassured and I hope Bailey makes a full recovery. And if something does happen to concern you more, at least the vet will be expecting her and know her history. Job well done!

  12. I feel so much better, thankyou all for your support! The best thing is? The vet closes at 7pm, so if something does happen during that time I know I got back up. She ate about 5 meals earlier, now I'm just going to let her rest up and hope that's all she has inside her. She's sleeping pretty comfortably so I guess that's a good sign. (:

  13. That's excellent about the vet closing late, that helps a lot, doesn't it? Now you can just keep a watchful eye over her and relax a bit! {{{Emma and Bailey}}} Eating and sleeping comfortably are definitely good signs! Just keep a watch for any signs of limpness, lethargy or distress but hopefully there won't be any.

Posted 1 year ago by jcat #

  14. There isn't. She's outside playing, she is eating grass.. But I guess that's because she had about 5 meals so far. :P

  15. This sounds more positive than when you first posted here, Emma. Maybe the one is all Bailey had. Sometimes first pregnancies don't work out as expected, for humans -or- kitties.

Just continue to be a watchful and loving mommy and you're always welcome here! If you can take pix of Bailey that would be great, I'd love to see her.

  16. I sure will try! My kitty has her own facebook. Haven't updated it in a while. She's laying on me and purring right now, no bleeding. Just all happy, and cuddly. Very happy since I rang, spoke about this and the amazing feedback I got. You guys are awesome!

  17. Oh I'm so glad to hear that! I understand how hard it can be financially to get vet care but it was very good that you rang your vet to get their perspective on the situation. I hope Bailey makes a full recovery- we would love to see pictures of her. =)

  21. How is she doing, Emma? Did you ever take her to the vet for a check up?

  22. Not yet. She's doing amazing though. (: We are taking her to the vets this weekend.
