  1. She went out around 11 a.m. this morning and it's 9:00 and she's not back. It's not like her to stay out this long. I heard her get into a fight with a neighbor cat around 12, 12:30. I don't know if it got physical but she was doing some caterwauling. I saw the neighbor cat going toward its house and I called for Jasmine but she didn't come and I couldn't even find where she was. I figured she would probably come back in shortly after that, but she didn't. I've put some water outside and some clothes with my scent. I dearly hope she shows up sometime tonight. If not I'm going to have to go on a search tomorrow. I already looked around some with a flashlight but there's no telling where she could be.

  2. I wish I had some advice to offer, but instead I'll just keep you in my thoughts.

OK, Jasmine, you've had your fun! Come home so your family can stop worrying!

  5. Is it possible that she's injured and hiding somewhere where she feels safe? Cat's hid in dark secluded places when they are sick or injured. Try looking in those places.

  6. She won't have gone far and she'll probably come back in the middle of the night, two or three am (is it that where you are, yet?), when it's dark and quiet and she feels more confident about being out. Have you searched under your house and in any sheds or outhouses you might have on your property? One TDKer (I forget who) had a great idea, they put one half of a baby monitor on their doorstep and the other by their bed so if their cat miaowed to come in in the middle of the night, they could wake up and hear her (of course, it helps to have a baby monitor). I would put some food on your front step too, unless you have a problem with predators. Poor Jasmine, please come home, your mama needs you.

  8. Jcat, that's what I'm hoping, she'll come late tonight. She did disappear once before like this for a long time, but came home 10 or 11 as I recall. That was when we were at the apartment. It's now 10:52. I'm in a mobile home now, and I don't believe there is any way she can get under the house. These homes have no garages, so she couldn't be trapped in someone's garage. I think she must've gotten disoriented somehow and got lost. She would not voluntarily be out this long...I haven't put out food yet, but socks and water. It will be cold for my poor baby out there tonight. Fortunately, not as cold as last several nights but maybe down to 40 degrees, cold enough. You know, this place is pretty quiet MOST of the time...a cat doesn't need to wait until 3 a.m. to feel safe. That's part of the problem, perhaps, she feels TOO safe here and thus wanders too far from home. Anyway, I'm praying for her and seeing her finding her way home. Wish I had a baby monitor! I'll probably wake in the night and go check...if I get any sleep at all... (sigh)

  11. She's been looking out the window a lot, almost like she's looking for a cat--who maybe chased her away? attacked her? I think it had to do with that mean neighbor cat. The first night I let the cats out Kensho got chased away from it.

  12. So pleased she turned up safe and well. Think it's that bit worse when they go missing at night like that. Sending big hugs to Jasmine ((((()))))

  13. Yay Mojo, Jasmine you're a good girl for coming home. It's always a heart stopping moment when our furry friends change their timetable without informing us first.

  14. All RIGHT! Jasmine, don't scare your mama again like that, she worries about you! That's fantastic news, Mojo! Just keep an eye out for possible loss of appetite and lethargy in a few days -- when my Max came home from an altercation, he nearly always got a nasty abcess from a bite or scratch a few days later, which needed antibiotics. (I swear, I financed the local vet for several years when Maxie was alive.) But hopefully Jasmine has escaped unscathed! Mean local cat!

MS, you always have such a great way of putting things :-)

  19. I'm glad Jasmine made it home safely! That' is wonderful! The times my mothers cat Merlin has come back soon is when he gets stuck in our neighbor's garage at times.

  22. Thanks for everyone's concern. Jcat, so far she's eating normally but I'll keep watching her for any signs of injury. I haven't seen any wound on her. But I'm beginning to rethink letting my cats out at all. I had thought, If I don't let them out after 3 p.m., they'll only be out in the day and hence safe from predators. Wrong! Fact is, there is no way to allow your cat out and have it be daytime-only. This has happened too often for my liking.

It was very different with Cloud and Salem. Because they were kept indoors their first five years, they did not get so accustomed to being outdoors. Salem didn't like being out much more than a few minutes at a time. Cloud would go out and most of the time come back in a half hour or so. Only one time did he stay out really a long time--he came back at around 3 a.m. and looked really shaken up. I figured he got lost in the forest near our apartment and encountered who knows what critters. He didn't want to go out for a week or more after that.

  26. I know & understand all too well that sinking feeling you get when your furbaby comes up missing & then the heavy heart-beating joy you get when they show back up To be safe once again. I'm glad your little Jasmine found her way back home where she belongs.
