  1. No really, what do you do to help you get thru the day? I often feel like I want to run screaming out the door. I know I'm not alone in this (at least I hope so!), so what are your coping strategies?

  2. I put myself on automatic a lot, and ignored the people around me. It got the job done, got a rep as being standoffish but it helped me get through the day. luckily, it was only for 6 months.

  3. Swearing
    Chocolate
    Kicking filing cabinets
Mentally sticking pins in a voodoo doll of my boss

...and only a 4 day week!!!

    Sorry, sounds like you're having a shitty time {{hugs}}

    Hi PJ!

thanks for the suggestions, it's just the ongoing, non-stop crumminess is hard to take sometimes! I tell myself it's better than no job (and sometimes I believe that!)

  5. I second all of what MCW said :)

    Seriously though, I sympathize 1000%.

  6. Came home and B*%$&ed
tried to ignore the stress causing things..

  19. (((Linda))) Sorry work's so tough on you :(

I tell myself I need the money and try to take time to enjoy myself when I'm not working and rewarding myself with something special every now and then. It's not easy and sometimes it's not worth it. Eventhough my job at the production company last year was much more stable and made me more money than the gym, I just could not stand it and it got to the point where I spent the whole weekend off dreading going into work on Monday. That's when I knew it was time to quit and stick with my job at the gym.

Hope it gets better for you or that you'll be able to find another job where you're treated better.
Bobby and Mi send purrs of comfort to you.

  20. Chocolate
Look at photos of my cats (on my iphone)
Go to itty bitty kitty committee website to view kittens
    More chocolate
Walk across the street to get a starbucks mocha
    Walk around the building/parking lot
Chew some bubble gum and blow bubbles (work in a cubicle)
Go get a glass of water or use the bathroom
More chocolate (okay...I don't eat that much but you get the gist of how it helps)
Remind myself to be thankful for my paycheck and having a job when many do not
Think about how it was to be working as a temp and not have a benefits
Put earphones on and listen to music on iphone
Send an email to a friend

Sending you some hugs Linda. I can totally commiserate on the job as I have been working more hours lately and even though the overtime helps in the paycheck sometimes you would rather have your life back.

  21. One thing that helped me, too, was to leave for lunch. Just take the time and get out of there to refresh your batteries. Even if you don't go somewhere for lunch, bring your lunch box/bag/whatever somewhere with you, sit down and enjoy getting away for a bit.

  22. Oh and if you can't leave and there is an empty office...borrow it for a mini "me" break with closing the blinds and locking the door.

Posted 1 year ago by SylMiaFelixsMomma #

  23. Thanks guys. some good suggestions. I do have my own office, but boss doesn't like it when I shut the door. Part of the prob is too much work and not enough time, but since the cats expect food, just have to keep plugging along!

  24. Why does your boss not like you closing the door to your office. Will it make them think you are pulling a "George-Seinfeld"?

  25. hee SMM! I'm not sure, actually...just gets irritated.

  26. Linda I go into my classroom and that is it! I have to get away from the politics and the adults--I go back to what I love--TEACHING KIDS! Then I can get through anything that might happen. I focus on what I love--does that help? Sure wish I knew the answer.

Posted 1 year ago by SoxsMom #

  27. I wish I could give you an answer but I go thru the same thing. I'm new here btw. Some days I tear up before walking in the door but I still say my prayers of thanks that I have a job since I'm around lots of people out of work. News is bad all over. I often feel guilty about complaining but can't help the way I feel. Hope it gets better for you. I find it helps to get away from the building for lunch. It's not much, but it's my little bright spot each day. I work with idiots and bullies who don't know what the #%@ they are doing! Ah, corporate America!!

  28. Think of recent college graduates like me who have applied to lots of places and are growing desperate to find a job...
Seriously, at this point I will enthusiastically take almost anything.

    Posted 1 year ago by ladysky61 #

  29. With you, Ladysky! But having watched my darling going through hell hating his job, I know how hard that is too. The only advice that I have is make it worth it by saving money towards something. If you can't get any pleasure from work, you can at least enjoy the cash you earn. Even if you cannot save much at a time, I find putting a bit aside regularly for something that you really want for you, not for other people, can make it feel more worth it. Sounds selfish, but feeling like you are working and being miserable just to spend all your money on other people can make you feel bitter towards them, when it is not their fault.

  30. Here's another one, read the miserable job report that came out today (yikes) and be grateful. I'm working on that one.
