Georgie is soooooo miserable

(45 posts)
  1. We took his dry food away, and now he howls nonstop all day and night like he's starving. Also, he used to keep his mousie toys in the crunchies bowl, so now he doesn't know what to do with them.

    This is a lot of change for one poor kitty, I think. Any thoughts on how I can help him adjust?

  2. I am no expert by any means, but did you bump up the amount of wet food he gets to compensate for the lack of dry? I know when I took away the dry food, I made sure that the 2 meals of wet (Nature's Variety raw) was enough calories to compensate and fill them up.

    Other than that I offer huges hugs of support !

  3. Could you put a bowl of mousie toys where his crunchies were Kilroy? Poor Georgie.{{{{{George}}}}}

  4. I was about to say similar to KK - maybe you can leave his old crunchies bowl down so he still has a place to drop off his mousie?

  5. Or maybe just an empty food bowl so Georgie can at least store his mousie toys?

    Poor Georgie...Meowmy's not trying to be mean on purpose! We promise!

  6. *Picks up Georgie and hugs him close* "Georgie, meowma is doing what's best for you....it'll be ok. Like Roxysmommy said, we promise" *Hugs Georgie some more and puts him down*

  7. Aw, poor Georgie...give him a smooch from me. I agree with what has already been stated about his special bowl that now will holds mousie toys!

  8. I was afraid that having the bowl there would confuse him even more, so I put it away. Maybe I'll try putting it down and putting the mousies in it. And yes, he's been getting a bit more wet food, but not a huge amount since the vet says he needs to lose a couple of pounds (just like his mama).

    *Georgie rubs his head under HM's chin and purrs ecstatically*

  9. Poor Georgie! I have no advice but I do like the idea of his bowl and put his mousies in it. Maybe it will help. {{{{{{{{{Georgie}}}}}}}}}}

  10. Maybe Georgie is just hungry! I know Perry bugs me for food constantly... At times, he bugs me about every two hours for his wet food. I don't give him too much at once though. I read that cats with UTIs do better with more frequent feedings, so I feed Perry whenever he asks. He's always been thin though, not like the other three.. LOL
    Did you tell the vet Georgie whines all the time? I can't see why he can't have "some" (special for UTIs) dry food "once" in awhile. It doesn't seem to hurt Perry. It fills his tummy for a longer period of time too, I noticed. Cats seem to know what they need. Maybe you could get a second opinion from a different vet, to see what works best for Georgie? I feel so sad for the poor boy whining, not understanding what's going on, and can't tell you either. It just doesn't seem right...... Vets don't always know everything....... Each cat is unique. It breaks my heart hearing about Georgie being so sad...... HUGS to all of you! Keep us posted sweetie. Good luck!

  11. Thanks, BB. I hate hearing Georgie whine (and it's driving Mr. K bonkers); I think I'm going to give the vet a call and discuss how much we should be feeding the poor starving creature.

    Of course, George is also figuring out that if he yowls he gets attention and petting, so that may be part of the problem, who knows?

  12. Spoiled Georgie - he can purr at me any time he wants.

  14. Awwwww poor Georgie....that sounds like my ol' Stormy cat that I had....he was always howling for food. I would definitely call the vet and ask about this. If George is that upset and hungry, surely they can advise you{{{{The Kilroys and Georgie}}}}

  15. Poor Georgie - change is hard on all of us, isn't it? No one likes having their dinner messed with and their mousie homeless.

  16. Think someone might be milking the situation, Kilroy? LOL
    Oh Georgie, you can yowl at me too anytime you want! When HM is done scritching you...it's my turn to give you some lovin'!

  17. Kilroy - my girls get 2.5 -3 oz of frozen raw at each feeding, which is twice a day - so that is at least 5-6 oz a day... George may be hungry ... especially if he is active. My two are 3 and 9 years old.

  18. But don't cats have to loose weight at a much slower pace than humans? And I think I would put the empty bowl down so he does have a place to put his toys.

  19. I think I may need to give him a whole 3 oz. can at each of his 2 daily feedings (vet will probably tell me this is too much; he thinks George is too heavy at 14 lbs.)

  21. Kilroy, you could do that and then very gradually cut back if you feel the need to either 2/3 or 1/2 a can of the food

  22. Kilroy, did the vet tell you to "only" give George 2 feedings per day? Was he used to that already? I agree that cats should lose weight slowly as someone else said.
    I wonder if it would make a difference feeding him 3 or 4 times per day so he wouldn't get so hungry in between? Just a suggestion.... You could always try it. I find when I give my cats too much at one feeding, they sometimes throw up. Gavin did that to me the other night. He must have been so hungry by the time I got home from work, and he ate a little wet food and a few minutes later. Yuk!! So, now I give him alittle dry when I get home and the wet later and that seems to help. Like I mentioned...each cat is different. Hope you find a solution. I would definitely call the vet though and explain just what is happening.

  23. Have you tried him with chicken livers for a weekly treat? My kitties and MS's Shadz inhale them (but Deb's Crew ignored them so it doesn't always follow, lol). They come raw in a tub at the supermarket (presumably so hoomins can make chicken liver pate) and they are soft and golopshus, so they don't have to be chopped up. I'm just thinking if you can find him some new treats he might stop missing his crunchies so much.

    I agree with giving him back his mousie bowl filled with mousies. Or maybe you could get him a new mousie bowl filled with mousies if you think he associates the old one with crunchies too much. Poor Georgie. I'm not sure what to suggest. Kitties and their eating habits can be such a problem.

  24. What food are you feeding?

    What is his ideal wieght?

  25. FF50 she will prob be back on in a few hours, I know she wakes up early too.

  26. Poor Georgie! I'd never be able to switch Bobsky to wet food only. Are you sure you can't feed him just a little bit of dry food, if the majority of his food is wet?
    I agree with the others, try putting the bowl back, so at least he has somewhere to put his mousies :)

  27. Poor lil Georgie.....I would give him his mousey bowl back, or another one as someone suggested....a talk with the vet hopefully, will end your frustration. {{{KILROY&GEORGIE}}}

  28. Hi all. Things were so much better last night; no meowing at all. The only change was I put his crunchies bowl down and put his favorite mouse in it. I don't know if the 2 are necessarily connected, but the quiet last night was good :)

    FF, he's getting Fancy Feast poultry and beef varieties; they come in 3 ounce cans and when he had dry food available all day I was giving him half a can in the morning and half at night. I don't know if 2 whole cans a day is too much. I called and left a message for the vet but haven't heard back yet.

    Posted 1 year ago by Kilroy #

  29. So glad to hear last night was better. Yay for Georgie!

    Posted 1 year ago by GreatDane #

  30. Awww, sweet Georgie.....glad he has his mousie bowl back :)) I'll be interested to hear what the vet says. I'm sure the quiet was a relief to you and Mr. Kilroy :))
