  1. As my bum has been firmly planted most of the day with a blanket, box of kleenex and a drink, I decided to open the NS. There is a simple Sunday menu, soup and sammies. The grill is open if you would like anything else. The fountains are still flowing from this morning and I am going to have an ice cold sprite. Some chili might be good with warm cornbread and butter. How are you tonight?

  5. Evening all, just popping in briefly before getting my head down for a nap. It's a grey windy day here and totally uninviting outside. Unless of course you are a cat, HRH Shadz is curled up in a pile of sticks and leaves in a sheltered spot sound asleep.
MC, I hope your cold is short and sweet, boost your vitamin C intake, eat garlic take olive leaf capsules, they're all good for you immune system. Hi Abigail & Deb.

  6. Sorry you are sick MC. Take good care of your Meowma, Nurse Betty and Nurse Wilma. I feel a craving for some Nantucket Nectar brand cranberry juice coming on. Yum! Evening Abigail and AZDeb. Hi MS! Hope you are all okay from weathering the cyclone.

  8. MS I swear by garlic and vitamin C!! I almost always have fresh garlic in everything I make. I have also found that fresh garlic doesn't give you as bad breathe as I have been told. I also take Lysine--it is great for the immune system!! Not only do I give it to the cats because of FeLV--their exposure I don't have a positie cat at the moment--but I take it myself! Really MC it won't hurt to try--after all maybe your immune sysetem will boost and you can report a wonderful day!!!

  9. MC, sorry you are sick. And with 18-24 inches of snow on the way. yuck!!!

We're going to get hit hard here in St. Louis too. A bit to the NW will be a like amount of snow to Chicago. A bit to the SE will be mostly rain. But St. Louis gets the bullseye for heavy ice followed by heavy snow.

Current prediction is for it to start about 4a.m. to 6a.m. in a few hours and keep coming through Tuesday and ending sometime Wednesday. Minimum 1+ inch of glazed ice topped by 5-7+ inches sleet topped by 10+ inches of wet snow. All accompanied by 25+mph winds gusting to 40+mph and temps dropping to zero or lower with windchills of -15 to -25 F. Widespread power outages lasting many days are expected. It's going to be a long, cold, dark, hard week.

The NWS predicts it will be an historic event comparable to the 1982 blizzard and 2006 ice storm combined to create one of the worst winter storms St. Louis has ever had. It could get "interesting."

Even though I'm still sick with the never ending sore throat/sinus/bronchitis infection I've had for 5 weeks and for which I'm back on antibiotics, I got out today and stocked up heavily on cat food, cat litter, meds, food for me, and batteries to run the electric Coleman lanterns and flashlights and radio.

At least I have a gas cooktop and gas water heater that both keep working in power outages, so I'll be able to eat hot food and have hot water to bath and wash dishes. I'm up late getting ALL the laundry caught up and about to do some vacuuming while I still have power to do so.

My biggest worry is if the power is out for days in such bitter cold how well my aged Tigger and diabetic Alice will fare. Mandi is so fat a cat she has natural insulation and Frisky is such a high energy cat he'll do okay. I worry about Tigger and Alice though and will fix them warm blanket kitty "caves" on the beds if need be.

Oh well, much of the rest of the country and Canada have already coped with horridly rough winter so far. Now it's our turn for more than just extra snow and cold. These things run in cycles and this winter happens to be a rough one. I think everyone is ready for springtime!!!

  13. Evening Deb and Marnet. What a cutie Fang is. love the "he was such a nice dog" had to LOL. Love the Marble cave and the gorgeous lake.
Deb, Airy says you'll love the Grand Canyon, I have a picture of it on the table in front of me that she brought home and we all got fridge magnets.
Great pics of Tuscon and GC. So different from anything here.
I'l let KK know about the link you posted for her.
Marnet, I hope the predicted weather goes easy on you and that the power stays on.

  14. Evening Jan, did you get any rest last night? Saw that Northern Australia is about to get hit by a cyclone in the next couple of days, hope that they are ready with all the flooding they have had lately. Tell Airy I hope to see it either this year or next.

Posted 1 year ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  15. I got a wonderful sleep last night, we even slept in this morning and this afternoon I had a nap. Gee, I sound old.
Yes, poor Australia, one of the cyclones is likely to be very strong and could cause a lot of damage. We were lucky our cyclone Wilma was moving so fast but we did get several months of rain in 12 hours. I believe that Australia is facing 2 cyclones, not sure where the other one is coming from.
Just read that cyclone Yasi could be on a par to Katrina.

    Posted 1 year ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

  16. Oh my heavens, Australia doesn't need any cyclones, especially on top of the vast flooding that has so devastated huge parts of the country already. My prayers everyone stays safe!

Posted 1 year ago by Marnet #

  17. Yasi is the one that is supposed to hit Northern Australia on Wed-Thurs-Fri, let's hope that its power dies down before then.

  18. I agree Marnet, they've had so much rain that the land is waterlogged.
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10703243
They are expecting 1 metre of rain in some areas! ! that amount is difficult to imagine.

    Posted 1 year ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

  19. Wow that is a lot of rain!

Posted 1 year ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  20. It is a lot of rain, and falling on waterlogged land.
HRH has come in for the night and is now curled up next to me sleeping. I'm seriously considering heading for bed too, it's been a long weekend.

    Posted 1 year ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

  21. With rains like that its hard for the already saturated ground to take in more, happens here in the desert every couple of years.

If you are heading off to bed, then I wish you a good night's sleep and sweet dreams, hope for better weather tomorrow and scritches to HRH in the morning.

  22. I'll be heading off shortly Deb, got the last thing at night jobs to do like making sure there is food for a hungry cat and making Mr Ms's lunch.
I'll pop back in after doing those.

    Posted 1 year ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

  23. Ok I will be here :)

Posted 1 year ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  24. Jobs all done and I'm off for the night now. Sweet dreams for when you get home Deb and chin scritches for The Crew.

  25. Ciao, g'night my friend.

  26. Just a tidbit of knowledge.....the coldest temp on earth (-128.6F) was recorded on July 21, 1983 at Vostok Station in Antarctica......ok fine I won't complain anymore about the weather

Another one...for soft feet, fill a basin with warm water and 3 tbs baking soda. Soak your feed in the water for 10 mins, then sprinkle a little baking soda on your damp feet and buff away rough patches. Rinse and moisturize your feet.

Can you tell I am bored plus I have a headache so trying to find something soothing to think about.

Posted 1 year ago by AZDEBRA 5/27 & crew #

  27. Hi, Deb, I'll keep you company for half an hour, if you're still bored. I have to get up early tomorrow for the plumber (I'm so glad I don't have to do HIS job, lol) but the witching hour has only just struck, lol. How are you tonight, apart from being bored?

Posted 1 year ago by jcat #

  28. Evening Jane :) What's with the plumber? Apart from being bored, trying to ignore a headache here and finding things to do so I stay awake. Couldn't sleep today for any amount of good time (30 min naps) so tired enough that I might fall asleep if I sit long enough.
