  1. Well everyone, things can (and usually do) change on a dime in the bright Sunshine State of Florida....

the biting boss has been admitted to the hospital for mental distress. Can you believe it? Now I'm stuck deciding whether to stay here or take the new job.

Just for the record, I really don't know which way to go.

    Advise is always welcome!

  2. Is he coming back?

  3. Wow Terri, well all I can say is that would make your case or lawsuit much stronger..to stay or go..that is really a hard one..do you think things would get better if you stay? the new one is closer isn't it..and also, how long have you been with the current one? Plus..how long will they keep biting boss locked away...

  4. Teri, the new job is closer to home and didn't you say it paid about the same?

I would go with the new job. You don't know that when he is released he won't go off again

  5. Terri, yesterday you were so excited about this new job! Didn't you say it was closer and it paid more? Why would you want to stay at your old job?

  6. Actually, I got a raise when he left as that I would be the only one in charge. So there's that money as a factor. I'm going to talk to John this week end and decide then. I love all you guys for your suggestions. and Instinct, I think that I'm going to need a whole gross of whack bonks sticks. Can I place my order now?

  7. What is the downside of taking a job that is closer to your house, being paid more money and having staff to do things for you that you now have to do yourself? What is the upside of staying where the owners give you no authority to hold staff accountable and you have to cover their mistakes????

  8. Run! Abscond! Don't let the door hit you on the ____ on your way out!

The convenient mental distress of your former boss stinks on ice. It sounds like a cover for his and the firm's posterior.

  9. See... judge you listen to, yes? Wise she is in the ways of the work force, hmmm....

  10. If you don't leave current job, Terri, in a few months you may find yourself in the same predicament as now. Boss will come back and you're 'at square one'. Just my opinion. . .

  11. You've not been happy for ages Terri, before this all happened. Maybe reconsider the legal action, if the guy really is mentally distressed, but don't reconsider on the new job.

  12. Sorry MCW this is not the time to be the nurturing and forgiving 'nice little lady'. Let the courts decide if Mental Distress is sufficient to mitigate VIOLENCE with sexual overtones in the workplace.

  13. Life is short..work is hard...go where you can be happiest in doing it!

  14. Terri...my 2 cents...Take the new job & the higher pay. If he's in Mental Distress, it could take months before court proceedings over his biting you. I could be wrong, but, It sounds like your feeling like you'd be letting the company down by leaving for a better position.

  15. Teri, see if new job will let you start a week later. Get things in order at old job and then get the heck out of Dodge. You were frustrated to no end for the last several months. Get while the getting is good. I agree the boss's mental state might be a hiney covering move on his part. DO NOT be manipulated into staying. Email me off the list if you want to talk more.

  16. Terri, mental distress is a pretty vague diagnosis. That could mean he has been admitted for two days, two weeks, two months - who knows? My bet is that when he returns nothing will have changed and you will still be unhappy but will have given up a better position. Besides, he could be having his teeth sharpened.....

  17. I agree with the others, Terri. Who's to say mentally distressed boss won't come back and continue his weird behavior?
You don't need the added stress of being the one in charge - and isn't that and the raise only until/if mentally distressed biting Boss comes back?
If the other job is closer to home and pays you more than this one used to, I think you should take it. (and Bob thinks so, too!)

  18. Listen to Bobsky. He knows best

    Posted 4 years ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  19. My God, Terri! WTF? We have been listening to your on/off relationship with your boss for months now. It results in him BITING you!?!?!?! What kind of "office" is this? If you stay you both ought to be in the loony bin! RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!

Posted 4 years ago by CatRancher #

  20. OK, so we have tallied up the votes and it looks unanimous that if you stay at the old job we will have to descend upon your place of employment and kidnap you so that you can make it to your NEW JOB on time.

Posted 4 years ago by Instinct #

  21. Bobsky does indeed, ppearson!

  22. Terri,Take new job please. Boss going to the hospital for vague "mental distress" is no different than celebs going to rehab when they get caught doing something. It could be real but it's also a way to avoid responsibilty. The cops can't get at him until he's released either. Then he's out and you'd be in a worse postion I believe. You don't owe this company anything, you're not empowered there and what happens next time boss flips out?? IMHO

  23. I agree with everyone else, take the new job. Yours isn't a good place to be and you are being given a way out to something that will probably be better. Besides the people who you were covering for are now going to be the ones taking the heat :-)

  24. Now, I'm not religious or anything (anyone who know me can vouch for that) but I always hear people say "When one door closes, God opens another one"

Well, Terri, don't you think applying, interviewing, and landing this new job in record time is a hint??

Posted 4 years ago by Instinct #

  25. I'd like to see the hospital try to collect from boss's health insurance company. "Mental distress" isn't included in any diagnostic system with which I'm familiar, and most insurance companies (mine, anyway) require a specific diagnosis with a code from a known and accepted diagnostic manual.

Posted 4 years ago by Leeny #

  26. Suuure it is Eileen. They just throw it under the ol 883.0 code. Least that's what they would do to us when I worked workers comp :)

Posted 4 years ago by Instinct #

  27. What's the 883.0 code, Instinct?

Posted 4 years ago by Leeny #

  28. Terri, personal experience speaking here, I let a very high up person in the police department get away with 'sexual harrasment' towards me, because 'the department and he promised that it would never happen again' well long story short 2 years later I was fired and the harrasment had started again within 4 months of the initial promise. But since I wasn't serious enough to press the issue, the higher ups thought I was just crying wolf since he never did it when others were around...only when I was on mid-shift. Really think about what you will do if he starts again after he is 'cured' of his mental distress, the convience of this seems too familiar but its something you have to decide on.

  29. Terri, new job, John home 6th Feb, new start to this phase of your life. :-)

    Posted 4 years ago by Moonshadow_NZ #

  30. I vote for taking the new job...change is always scary, but the shorter commute would be heaven, wouldn't it? And I'm going to guess, no weekends so that would be great...what does Therapy Cat (the King) recommend?
