Ok, so I just brought home a new kitten yesterday. The owner guesses that the kitten is about 10 weeks old. I understand the cat may be stressed out since my other two adult cats dont want anything to do with him yet. But the kitten wont stop meowing. It meows when it eats, it doesnt sleep (at least i dont think so) it kept me up all night because it wouldnt stop meowing. I tried to hold it, but it wont let me, it wants to live in my closet. I just am worried, I realize he is probably stressed. Someone please tell me this is normal! And if its not, please tell me what to do. Im worried for the little guy.
Thanks!

Yes, your new little guy is scared..He may also not be as old as you were told. Try to set aside a special area for him, a box with soft blankets, and put it in the closet for now until he feels less scared of his new surroundings..A check by your vet would also be a good idea.

If you were two yrs old, would you accept the nice banana from the police officer and shut up or insist "I WANT MY MAMA"?
Your baby wants his mama. Time, Love and security will calm his fears. The closet sounds like a nice haven fix him a nest and remain calm. Your worry only deepens his.
Vet checkups are always in order.

Poor kitty, poor jwerner88...not knowing can be maddening! I'd try it all...even the old proverbial wind-up clock wrapped in cloth and placed beneath the blankets. (the old...tic tic..to resemble momma and sibblings heartbeat) Too bad you couldn't take one of the other littermates..I'll bet the fuss would indeed come to a meowing halt.
-
jwerner, I think everyone else here has the problem pegged. Your kitten has always been around his littermates and mama, and now he's not. He probably thinks he's lost (or they're lost), and was calling for them.
A small stuffed animal in his nest to snuggle up to, all kinds of soft & fuzzy blanket in the box (feels like littermates), and extra cuddling, attention, and reassurance will help your kitty get through this transition. It's a big scary world out there when you're only 10 weeks old.
(It's why I generally don't adopt out kittens until they're 12-16 weeks old; they seem to handle the transition much better at that age range.)

Thanks to all of you!!
Im gonna try all of that, the stuffed animals and the ticking clock under the blankets. ive had kittens before but never have i had any of them do this. I felt he was stressed and lonely but i just didnt know how to help him because i had tried to hug him and hold him while petting him gently but he didnt want a part of it.
I found this kitten in my grandmothers neighborhood and went door to door looking for a owner and after awhile i found the owner. But the owner didnt want the kitten. the owner also said that the other kittens were put out as well. I searched and searched but didnt find another kitten. :( I always seem to find those poor abandoned animals. and it breaks my heart.
I hope this all works and I am eager to make him happy!
Thanks again,
jaimie -
No wonder baby is distressed! Forced from his mother's side with his siblings and dumped to fend for their too young selves! In Winter, yet!
I am IRATE! This so called owner has much bad karma heading to them and every ounce deserved.
Bless you for taking the tyke in. And for trying to find the rest.

I got Huddy when he was six weeks old and he cried --- a lot. Day, night, morning, afternoon - I really thought there was something wrong with him. But he stopped after a week or so. I originally had him sleeping in a small basket on a pillow next to my head. As soon as he was able he would climb out and sleep on my neck. That's what finally made him stop crying. He slept on my neck until he got too big, but will occassionally put his front paws there and massage me.
Bless you for taking this baby in. He's lucky to have you for a mama.

He is a very sweet cat. He actually took to my boyfriend very well last night. kitty came out of hiding to come see wayne( boyfriend). He wont come out for me, but I know someday he will. I can give him kisses without him pulling his head away. He is a very sweet cat and I know he feels lost. I hope my other two cats will soon accomodate him and make him feel welcome. I dont know how anyone can do such a thing to a poor helpless animal. I have my grandma looking out for the other kittens. If I find them I sure will take them in even for a little while till I can find them the best homes.
Theres nothing more in the world that i hate more than people who neglect, abuse, or abandone animals. Do these people have hearts or compassion? I guess not, let them rot in hell for all the hurt they put on poor defenseless animals. The sad part is... :( I cant help them all
kitty seems more relaxed and calm. I put the basket in the closet with some stuffed animals, trying to find a clock. Closed one door so he feels secure. But I have been checking up on him every 2 minutes. I cant stop looking at him, he's so precious

jwerner88..How wonderful you saved this poor baby..I wish you and your grandma luck in locating the others..lets hope if you can't find them that someone with a heart as beautiful as yours found them first. Oh and I agree with Instinct...I would report that *^%^*&^.. We would love to see pics of all your fur babies..Do you have a catster page?

You're doing the exact, right thing (though I am sure you know that already)
Make sure to give your other cats lots of love so they don't think they have been replaced by the kitten. Let him have the room all to himself for a few weeks, but put his food and your other cats food near the door, that way they can smell each other during feeding time. This will help them get socialized a little bit.
Also, once it is time to introduce them in a few weeks, put a light perfume or scented lotion on your hands that you normally wear and then give all the cats a good rub with your hands. This will make them all smell something like you which can help them bond.
Good luck to you. I found my furballs as well and it was one of the best things I think I have ever done was taking them in.

i also forgot to tell you all, last night wayne and "lucky" *sigh* were having a meow battle. haha they were meowing back and forth as if they were having a conversation. i believe in talking to ur animals but they did this for about 2 hours.
update 2:
wayne is sitting on the floor with new kitty and new kitty puurs for him. i wonder if its a man thing lol..kitty hasent bonded with me yet but im glad he has made a friend in wayne -
well wayne and the kitty are laying on the floor. wayne has become the new mommy as he licks new kittys head. for someone who doesnt like cats he sure does like this kitty. its cute!! new kitty also licks waynes face and nibbles on his fingers.
i guess wayne is the one haha ;) it will keep him busythank u all
i will deff. keep u all updated -
jwerner88...I agree with Instinct. The person that did this needs to be turned in to the proper authorities. The fact that the owner had no qualms about informing you that there were others they discarded like trash clearly says what kind of morons they are. The best of luck finding the others. Did the owner tell you how many they threw out?
-
I guess this little one is a man's cat. I have one of those...Mickey is totally bonded to my husband.
What a wonderful thing you are doing jwerner88. You have gotten some really good advice, your baby is just lonely, but sounds like he will be OK with Wayne's help.
Can't stand to hear about the idiot who put the kitties out. Does he really belong to the so called "intelligent species" on this planet?? Methinks NOT. I hope and pray that you can find the other babies or that they have found their way into other loving homes. Good luck, I'm sure Baby (what's his name by the way?) will be OK with your help and love.Posted 4 years ago by Tigerlilly #

Our first kitten cried so much the first week we called her Miss Meow. We went back and got her sister! In the meantime, lots of attention and warm blankets might help.
That poor baby was out in the cold? Kudos to you for taking him in. I hope that owner gets what's coming to him (fleas, ticks or maybe a bad case of crabs!).Posted 4 years ago by Violetbabykitty #

jwerner88, thank you for rescuing this poor baby. As others have mentioned, report the former owner of you kitty to the authorities as in some areas abandoning an animal is punishable.
Sounds like you are making progress with your new kitty. Glad to hear your bf, Wayne has bonded with the kitty.

jwerner 88, I forgot to comment on "I always seem to find these poor abandoned animals"...did it ever occur to you that "they find you"? Best rewards come from those we rescue. Thanks again
