  5. Well, I flunked going to the gym today, but I did call and make a reservation at the pool for Sunday.

Kit, are you going to be using the weights while doing exercises? They're not recommended for just walking around with, you can get hurt that way.

  14. ABS FAB
Keep this in mind when you get back to basics
An old-fashioned sit-up is one of the best ab-strengthening moves around, says personal trainer Tom Holland, who designs workouts for star clients. The key, Tom says, is to avoid a common mistake that can cause neck strain, not to mention rob you of much of the waist-whittling benefit: don’t wedge your feet under anything for leverage. “Hooking them under anything will engage your hip flexors, not your abs,” he says. To protect your neck, imagine that you’re holding a tennis ball between your chin and chest. And then use strength of character to keep your feet flat on the floor—yeah, we know it’s your abs doing the work, but it feels like a moral victory.
-Tom’s forthcoming book, Beat the Gym, offers lots more ways to supercharge your workout.

  23. I am still in fitness boot camp. This is the third week. I decided not to do the low carb diet provided by the trainer. Instead ive stuck to 1200-1300 calories per day with lower fat and higher protien and no more than 20 grams of sugar a day. I have lost 6 pounds and 2% body fat. My stomach is a lot flatter and im getting stronger. Woo hoo, just 2 pounds until im in the 120s!

  26. We took a spin class on our cruise and went into it kind of like "We bike therefore we are fit". And we are fit but I swear - that spinning is HARD!!! There was a lake of sweat under Mr. WWM's and my bikes at the end of every class. But I felt like I burned enough calories to have my martini!

  27. FOR YOUR SANITY, GO NUTS
What to do when all you want is candy
Researchers now know that when your stress level goes up, it triggers a biological craving for sweet, fatty foods. (You suspected as much already, didn’t you?) But Best You stress-buster Thea Singer suggests a way to satisfy those urges and actually guard against some of stress’s damaging consequences: Snack on pistachios. “A recent study at Pennsylvania State University found that regularly eating pistachios can reduce our vascular response to stress, lowering blood pressure and bad cholesterol,” Thea says. Turns out that pistachios have the highest level of plant sterols of any nut—sterols being chemicals known to lower cholesterol. The “dose” in the study? About 1.5 to 3 ounces a day.
