So after going to the shelter and having a very open mind for either cat or kitten, in the end it was not me who decided on who I would choose. Instead it was Paul.
Paul was terrified of me and would not come near me the entire time and stayed close to the opposite of his enclosure. He would let other people come near him but just not me. So I don't know whether he sensed something he didn't like on me, or if I just scared him.
So I chose Gabriel instead, I am very happy and confident in my decision. I did look at other cats but most of them were not playful at all and were either too old or too big. One of the cats, Niko the father of Gabriel was almost 15 pounds! And I decided no because he was alittle too aggressive for my liking. I think a lot of the cat's personality is influenced by the people s/he is raised with.
Thank you everyone for your advice and words, I appreciated it and thought of the pros and cons of both I greatly appreciate how everyone thought of both sides. Without you guys I would have felt bad on either side. I listened and understood both ends though and while I would have chosen Paul more for him being an older kitty, I decided that I think the younger one was better. Gabriel is closer to 7-8 weeks than 6.
