  1. So it is the second day of Duchess and Gabriel coexisting in the house in two different rooms though. I usually bring Duchess in the living room because when she does escape and get into the front of the house she never goes in there. So I brought her in with her food and placed it about 2 feet away from the enclosed Gabriel who was currently munching on some treats. He completely ignored her.

She would not stop staring at him, and she only moved slightly closer to him before backing off. No hissing, and no raised fur. I gave her lots of attention and loving, but needless to say I think she is terrified of him.

He wants to play usually but she stays far away out of fear. The moment she leaves the room whether it's by me taking her out and she runs out she's perfectly happy and begging for attention.

Any suggestions on how to ease the terror and to help her realize he's a nice kitten?

I'm thinking about moving them into adjoining rooms our bed and study he'd be in the bedroom in his crate when we're not home and her in the study. So she can sniff him out better. I'd also be using a feliway diffuser. Is this a good idea? Any advice is appreciated, and the advice that has been given I appreciate it also very much.

  3. Well, now I look forward to the Duchess and Gabriel updates. Sounds like they are doing great. I wouldn't worry too much about her being afraid. She'll figure out he's no danger soon enough. I'd keep doing what you are doing. Letting her check him out while he's enclosed in his crate does sound like a good idea too. Wishing much happiness to you all as they figure out their new relationship. (And by the time my feliway diffuser arrived in the mail, I didn't need it anymore. But I did use some of the spray, since I found it in the store, on soft surfaces for the first few days they spent time together. I assume it probably helped since I noticed a marked difference in their affection toward me immediately.)

  4. Glad to hear thare was not a lot of hissing at the meeting... a little fear is not surprising, as Duchess has not been around other kitties. I am sure it will pass! Poor Gabriel, he just wants a playmate! Hugs to all!

  5. Ladysky: I hope both of our cats can all get along with their new roommates.

ECB: I hope they are doing great, the spray worked to you say? Hmm...I may try that too. I'm willing to try anything to help Duchess. Who has been kind of spoiled with our attention.

NCM: That's right I forget that she is an only kitty and probably doesn't even realize she is one, she probably thinks she is just a miniature human or something.

  6. DG, you're doing great!...... time will ease things, and it sounds like they are both just a little wary (scared) but are open to a new friend...... I know when I got Big Buc his little brother (Winston), he was fascinated with his new little friend...... Mr. AV would sit with Buc in his lap and I would hold Winston and sit just opposite, so that our knees almost touched...... we would each pet our little one, while they eyed each other and sniffed...... it was only a few days, and they were just fine, and from then on, BFF for over 15 years!....... I could never tell them apart when they were curled up together.... a big ball of black and white fur, with two heads!......!

  7. I hope that goes well for us too. Well Mr. DM took Duchess out and then let Gabriel out at the same time. [AND I THINK IT SET IT BACK A COUPLE OF STEPS] and he tried to touch Duchess and she ended up peeing all over the floor since she was so frightened.....Needless to say I'm not very happy with Mr. DM.

  8. Oh dear. I can see why you're displeased. You should probably go back to letting Gabriel stay in the cage so that Duchess can take her time getting used to him. Take it slow--they'll get used to each other in their own time.

  9. TR: I had moved them in the rooms next to each other...should I move him back in the living room after this recent event? I thought maybe he was lonely being in the front but Duchess is terrified now I think in doing anything. She just hides under the chair now in her room.

  10. Sorry about your little setback. I'm sure with time and patience Duchess will realize there is nothing to fear.

  11. Aw, it will take a little time and patience but eventually should work itself out and into furever friends!

  12. Patience is the key! Go slowly and they will be the best of friends, I bet!
