Scratching my head to figure it out

(10 posts)
  1. Hi all, I hope that i can find someone who can help me out with this kitty problem because i am almost losing my hair from scratching my head to figure out whats going on with one of my kitten.

I got my 1st kitten (Lewie) when he was 3 months old, everything is going perfect, the 2nd kitten (Patchy) got him after 2 months, they are brothers from the same parents, got them directly from their mother care.

I didnt get any problem introducing them to each other, the fact that the previous "owners" are close friend and we used to visit each other allot helped to carry their scent on us.

Anyway, My problem is I am having patchy now for the 2nd day only but he cant stop mowing laud, he go to places and start mowing, in the toilet, under the bed, on the corners, looking at me and mowing, I tried to feed him but nothing, water to drink nothing, not interested with toys at this moment, when I pet him he loves it but then he walks away and start mowing again, he even jumps to places that my first kitten never been there, it happened all in a sudden, just mowing if he is trying to tell something, Lewie is just watches him and try to stay close to him.

He is still mowing while i am a typing this, it breaks my heart.

he hide from time to time which it's normal, he come out and sniffs around, he doesnt like me to carry him, but loves the petting as i can tell from his body moves.

I am a previous dog owner for 6 years, I live in a studio 600 SQFT, not a big place i know, smoker but i smoke on the balcony, I love my pets so much that it makes me feel that i am having my own kids, I always keep fresh water and food every day, i clean the litter twice a day.

I know it might be a small issue and there was no need for me to make it that long, but i am just kind of sensitive if anything not normal with my pets.

Thank for whoever read this and trying to help.

P.S.: English is not my mother tong, so forgive me if I messed up with some spellings or grammar.

    Thank you again.

  2. You have not said if Patchy is squatting as if to urinate. He could be blocked. For that you would need a vet and quickly.

Other issues are at 5 months, if the brothers are not neutered, they could be maturing and will start disputing territory and spraying. Get that addressed ASAP as well. If you don't, neither you nor they will be happy.

Welcome to the crew...and your English is quite good. Even us "natives" have spelling and grammar issues.

  4. Thank you Ailu, well, they are not spraying yet, but i am keeping an eye on them all the time, maybe its possible that they are maturing, but I would like to add that Patchy is mowing everyday now at 4:30 AM for 30 min.

Thank you Joan :) so sweet of you, I really need it.

That sounds like hollow leg syndrome....It is common among adolescents of any species. You can't fill them up and they do their best to eat you out of house and home. He probably needs more calories to support his growth spurts.

  6. I think you are referring to the kind of diet with this stage if i am not mistaken, I just checked with the previous owners and they told me they used to feed him some local brand of cat food.

I am feeding my kittens always Royal Canin dry food for kittens, and i give sometime wet food as treat or on weekends.

is wrong diet playing a big rule? what can I do now, I know i have to take him to a Vet but i am just waiting for my next pay check to do so.

Thank you Ailu for fallowing up, i really appreciate it :)

  7. He could be looking for his former family. If you have only had him for a little while he could be wondering where they went. My Gracie, loves to wander the house and meow loudly 5 minutes after we turn out the lights and go to bed. It doesn't matter what time we turn in, she meows. She is playing with her toys and announcing to the world that she is a mighty hunter and she killed the evil sock toy. Se eventually quits playing and comes to bed. Thierry, our boy kitty climbs all over me at 5 in the morning and will meow softly in my ear. He wants me to wake up and give him a cuddle while everyone else is asleep and he doesn't have to share my attention. Once he has been cuddled he goes right back to sleep.

  8. I was not referring to what you were feeding but how much. Kittens eat up to 2X's as much as an adult Cat per pound of body weight. So a serving of catfood for a 10 pound cat would only satisfy a 5 pound kitten. You have an adolescent feline. He needs more food to grow and if he does not get it he gets hungry. 4:30 in the AM sounds like a breakfast call.

It could be other seeking like his absent siblings and Mom, or it could just be he thinks you should rise early and play. Cat's are most active around dusk and again around dawn. These are the times that their prey is easiest to catch.

Also you should reverse your standard diet and treats fare. Cats do so much better on a wet food diet. I like to put their kibble in treat balls so they have to "hunt" for their treats. So consider feeding canned for meals and dry for treats.

  9. i have been busy with work since a week now, but I would love to thank you all for being there with my issue.

Patchy is all good now :D no Meowing, he is healthy playful cat, still gets scared and try to hide but i can see improvements, Lewie is like taking care of him, no fights but rough play, though he is a kitten but i see him cleaning Patchy everyday.

Thank you all for the advises and for the stories you shared with me, it helped allot, i will be around always.

    Take care.
