  1. A few weeks ago Charlie lost a tooth and it wouldn't stop bleeding so we rushed him to the vet to find out that he had a blood clotting issue and that he was covered in tiny blood clots. Well he was put on steroids and antibiotics which helped the bleeding. Now his lymph nodes are swollen... The vet took a sample and looked at it and said the cells were cancerous. She is sending it off to a lab for further information. She said that there is nothing that we can really do for him. Chemo would only give him a few months and he would just suffer through it. I don't know what to do here, I can't stand the thought of putting my baby to sleep. He is only 6 months old :'(

  7. I'm so sorry, Butterfly. Vets have been wrong before, let's hope this one made a mistake. If she didn't, and you have to give Charlie the final gift, try to take comfort in knowing that he had a wonderful life with you, and that you were able to spare him pain and suffering.

  9. I know. He started out as my first foster cat. But he was just so darn cute, we couldn't let him go. He was rescued from a shed during the winter. I'm happy that I gave him a warm place to stay. It just breaks my heart that he may not get to enjoy the rest of this life.

  13. Prayers for you and Charlie--I hope he proves them wrong. But, thankfully you took him in and loved him--no matter how long he lives, that is the best gift you can give.

  15. Butterfly, I'm so sorry to learn about Charlie. I've known the heartbreak of having a kitty with cancer and not knowing what to do. Finally I had to draw on my hospice background and realize that quality of life is more important than quantity.

I will add my prayers that this might not be the correct diagnosis, or that it might be manageable.

  16. How about trying a homeopathic vet? I've read that B17 vitamins/apricot kernals cure cancer in pets as well as people. Don't know for sure but have a church friend trying it for his cancer. Have read success stories about it on the internet. Very interesting reads. So sorry about your baby. SO heartbreaking... Will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to both of you. Keep us posted.

  21. I will keep you guys updated! We should hear back about the test results by next friday. Usually Charlie doesn't like getting attention, but today he has been all over me and normally he won't lay with me if my other cat is in the room, but today he has been with me and licking my nose. I was trying to do the dishes but Charlie wasn't having any of that, he came over starting whimpering and tugging at my pants. he broke my heart, so of course I had to stop what I was doing and go watch him play. Could he know that something is seriously wrong and want to spend more time with me?

  24. I'm so sorry, this is such a sad thing. Charlie is so young, adorable, and sweet. He probably does know something is wrong, or he at least knows you are sad, and is being extra affectionate. My thoughts are with you.

  26. Best Wishes & Healing Light being sent for Charlie & his human family. He's a real cutie pie. I hope the tests show the original diagnosis to be wrong. I lost a dear kitty to cancer that showed up one day at my door. I named her Bunny b cuz she was as white as one could be. I hope your baby Charlie gets thru this with a long life ahead with you.
