  1. Dear TDK family,

Although I'm a relatively new member, it didn't take me long to realize that TDK is a very, very special place and more importantly, very, very special people. It was pure luck that I even stumbled upon this wonderful site (thank you, yahoo!). For months I just lurked looking at the daily picture of the new kitty and finally my husband said "Well, our girls should be on TDK". We sent Kittenmaster a photo and my goodness - they were TDK one day! We were thrilled! But when I started reading the comments, I think I was hooked. So tentatively I ventured out into the chat land but only to read. It took me a while to figure things out like "what is a sharing circle and a wack-bonk stick?"; what is the "night shift" and most of all "Who are these people?". I have never been in a chat group before and this was all really virgin territory to me.

I belong to some on-line forums, three of which are quilting groups. Last week on one of them some terribly ugly and hurtful things were said to one of the moderators about, of all things, thread! She then wrote a post saying that she had spent the day in tears and then removed the "offending" post she had written in which she expressed her opinion about thread. The point is, it was such a small issue and certainly not a topic that should have reduced anyone to tears.

So what makes TDK so special? Never have I seen a more caring, supportive group than you. There is not a problem that any of us have that we cannot bring here. It will never be ridiculed but rather an outpouring of love and concern will be expressed by the members. It is truly amazing. This must be the kindest place on the internet because surely you are the kindest group of people. And it all started because of a common love of animals, and kitties in particular. But that is really only the tip of the iceberg, isn't it?

We are all so different; different backgrounds, different ages, and probably very few of us have ever met in person. And yet somehow you all became instant friends. How precious is that in today's world?

So, rather than thinking to myself "Gosh, these people are special", I wanted to tell you. Thank you, Everyone!

  2. Wow, that was lovely. I have only been around for a few weeks, and I have found everything you say to be so true. This is the only chat group that I am a part of because after reading for a while, it was quite evident that this was a " safe and caring place". I guess there is something really special about animal/kitty lovers.

  3. WWM- You are very special..I have almost an identical story (except I'm still waiting to have Kittenmaster except Blackbeards pic) but I had never been in a chat room before, heard many bad things about them. I'm so glad you said these things..I second that...Thank you WWM and all the TDKers..

  4. WWM, that was awesome and I couldn't agree more! I am very new to this message board and everyone is so nice and caring. You summed it up nicely :)

  5. What a sweet essay, WWM! You have quickly become a very important member of the TDK family. You have expressed the special qualities of TDK so well. I'm glad you found us too!!

  6. WWM - I quite agree with all you have written. I feel I have better online friends than I do offline sometimes.

  7. I don't think I could've put it any better WWM. TDK and all the TDKers have been a real lifeline for me over the last few months.

  10. That was great WWM; it really does sum it all up. I've never been in any other chat room either. I have been here for quite a while, and have seen a number of changes, all for the better! Except, of course, losses such as Chester/Jerry. I also wonder how Ivory Bill is - he is quite the poet! It is fluffy and kind here, and it involves cats - YAY! If I feel down or upset, I can come here and I'm convinced that cyber hugs are just as good as the real thing because they're coming from true friends who really do care. I really enjoy starting my day by gazing at a new kitten.

  11. Willow and Windi's mom, you are a valuable member of this family, just as everyone else is. I, for one, appreciate all the love that the TDK has provided. Thank you.

  12. Hugs to WWM! We're VERY happy to have you be part of the group.

I've never been a member of any other chat room - or even taken a look at one. I don't need to - TDK has it all!

  14. WWM... excellent ! I agree 100%. Curious WWM... is there a SWISSMISS in any of your quilting chat rooms?

  15. Wonderfully said WWM and I feel the same way. I consider the people here my friends and I feel fortunate.

  16. I must say, this is an extraordinary, nice group. So friendly and welcoming. I think the animal groups and the plant groups attract the nicest people IMHO. There are a couple of foodie groups that will rip your head off--just nasty. I am so glad i found such nice people.

  17. My quilting groups are yahoo groups, OP. They really aren't chat groups. It's more like posting an email. The people in the groups post using their names rather than like we do. (Isn't it always a surprise to find out that we all actually do have names????) So there's not a Swissmiss - unless of course we have a hot chocolate vendor lurking out there!

VBK - I like to cook and so on my computer homepage I have lots of recipe sites. I like the ones where people can leave feedback on a recipe because it sort of gives me a better idea of whether or not I want to try that recipe. And I must say, I have seen some very mean spirited comments on one of those groups directed at another person who might have left a review. You know, it's a recipe - get over it, I say!

  18. WWM .. I was curious as one of my hula sisters is also a quilter, and is in some quilters chat room, just don't know which one. :)

  20. WWM...ThankYou. So beautifully written. I'm glad to know all of my TDK family. You yourself have helped me on several occasions to get thru some pain of my own. Your a wonderful compliment to our family. And your essay made me teary.

  21. Oh, Susie - I followed your journey with Cowboy and knew the pain that you felt at losing him. You do so much for so many little kitties. If only there were more like you!

Posted 4 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  22. wwm. Your eloquence brought tears to my eyes, too. This is truly a family, close knit and loving. Yes, we have our differences from time to time, but a whack from the whack-bonk stick usually brings us back into line.
This is such a fulfilling group, that it is hard to find words to express it to outsiders.
Thank you for your essay, and thank you Kittenmaster for bringing us together.
    Peace, hugs and purrs.

  23. Willow and Windi's mom : Bravo for a well written outpouring of love for TDK! I must say that I too, like you, stumbled upon TDK by chance. I have just became a mommy to a 5 day old kitten and being a total beginner, was quite lost on how to raise her. With the help of all the supportive and loving people here, she has now grown up happy and healthy.

I can't really thank you all enough and I am forever indebted to everyone who has helped me raise my little girl. She still have a long way to go and knowing that I can count on everyone here, makes being her mommy much easier.

  24. WWM, it's as if you had been listening to my thoughts and put them into words. My sister told me about the site, I lurked for about 3 months then held my breath and plunged in. What fun it has been since then, laughter, tears, advice, moral support all sorts of wonderful things. I've made wonderful friends here. Best of all we all love cats.

  25. WWWM, have you been reading my mind while I sleep, you have summed up my feelings about the TDK family so well, thank you. I found TDK via the yahoo webpage and their first offering of it, and its my one and only chat room. And it is even better because we all do have common threads in our lives, our love for our furrballs. Thank you KM for starting a place for us to go, did you ever think it would go this far?

  26. That was a very sweet essay you wrote, WWM, and know that we all are happy to have you in the group too. This is a very loving community of friends as you have seen. Thanks for joining us and the same to all the other newcomers of late.

  27. I too, found TDK via Yahoo. I have enjoyed getting to know all the other posters and feel as if an important part of my day is missing if I don't get a chance to log on and read the posts daily. The love and compassion shown by all the wonderful people here sometimes takes my breath away. I can't imagine not being part of this community (even though I pretty much stay in the background).

  28. WWM, what you said is so true! I love this place! I stumbled across it on a late-night Internet ramble and have never left. The people I meet here are wonderful and I love being able to chat with people all over the US and the world! I visit here every day, even though I don't always leave a comment. Thank you, Kittenmaster, and everyone who makes TDK such a special place!

Posted 4 years ago by hoosiercatlover #

  29. WWM - I agree 100%. I too found TDK on Yahoo and lurked for months. I had never joined any chat group and it took me a while to get up the courage to jump in. The best thing I've done in many a year. I know this groups sharing and love has made it possible for me to get through some very tough days and months. I now can carry the title of "crazy cat lady" with pride. I actually feel normal with my 23 furbie rescues, and in my new lifestyle. You have all made it possible for me to change direction from having a decorator's home to having a cat friendly home, with only a few regrets. I don't always join in the discussions, because I'm usually busy cleaning up after my problem cats, but in odd moments I do sit down to read as much as possible to keep up to date on happenings and prayers needed.

  30. Thanks--Kittenmaster is always on top of the posts to make sure we behave ourselves! You can always be sure there are caring people here to share.
