  6. Shelley said;He is doing so well GD, it is almost frightening (knock on wood)! There has been no sign of infection, all of his skin grafts have taken very well so far. He tires easily butwhen he is awake he is very aware of what is going on. They will keep the trach in until he is all the way through rehabilitation. We now know that his sight is intact (can't remember if I told y'all that). We also know that he will have to have extensive rehab as he is already having some mobility issues (not unexpected). All in all, even the medical personnel are very pleasantly surprised by his progress. So, every day I do the happy dance--now if I can just get up to the hospital on a day when they aren't doing a dressing change all will be good! Thanks for asking, and sorry for hijacking this thread!

  9. I found the thread...it was WWM not MCW...lol..does anyone besides me get their initials mixed up when in a hurry???? I'm not even dislexic..*shakes head in wonder* anyway..Shelley I'm so encouraged with Larry's update! That's so wonderful. It's a truly long row to hoe...God Bless his heart. He's definitely going through some hell. I'm gonna thank God in prayer for all the positive progress....Give Larry and his family my love. And big bear {{{HUGS}}} to his mommy!!

  10. Shelley, I'm so glad to hear of Larry's progress! It's a merciful thing that he didn't lose his sight; that would have made recovery that much harder, I'm sure. Mobility issues are not surprising, given the extent of his injuries; I'm hopeful that extensive reconstruction & grafts, plus intensive physical therapy, will help him recover as much as possible.

Perhaps if you talk with the nursing staff, you can find out what time of day they usually change his dressings, so you can try to see him sometime before they sedate him? I'd be a bit surprised if they weren't changing dressings daily, but it's possible that graft techniques have changed/improved in the past few years.

  11. I know they change his dressings in the morning, which overlaps the visiting hours--it takes minimum of 4 hours. I WILL not visit after dark--unfortunately the hospital is in a very bad part of town--seriously dangerous to be in. So I just have to hit the right day--I think they change them every other day as he is having surgery about twice a week right now for grafting. Gayle has told him that I am having a hard time getting up there what with taking care of the girls and my other obligations (I have a sister who cannot drive so I go to her house at least once a week, sometimes more). He is o.k. with that but I miss him so I keep trying!! I have gotten over the fear of seeing him, thanks to all of your prayers, so now it is a matter of timing. Thanks Marsha for moving that--I am quite computer illiterate, so it was beyond me!

  18. Yes Dorie they got here in time. They had a ball! I took everything over on Christmas Day and it worked out great because they had done their Christmas the night before as their mom had to work on Christmas Day. They were a little down about that as it is not their usual tradition, so being able to take all the cards and gift really brightened their day!! Thank You so much for being so thoughtful!
