Good site for depression

(11 posts)
  1. Like up to about an estimated 40% of the population, I've suffered from depression. In NZ, the Ministry of Health has a great website if you think you or someone close to you might be depressed. Just thought I'd post it in case anyone is interested.

  4. This was the closest match I could find, Dee: http://www.moh.govt.nz/moh.nsf/indexmh/national-depression-initiative-faq

Jcat, forgive me if I'm stepping on your toes (paws?) here.

  5. I've been depressed for most of my life and the only thing that can always make me smile no matter what? My cats.

  6. I thought getting a cat would do the same for me, HM; little did I know I'd be scared of him and spend most of my time feeling like a failure. At least he's got Mr. K, and he does make me smike sometimes (when he's not stalking/biting me).

  7. (((Kilroy))) You're not a failure, Georgie is just a pistol of a kitty. Things could still change, you never know.

  8. Except he only does that sort of thing to me. It started because when we first got him I would get freaked out if he got too close to my face or head, and he picked up on my freaked-out-ness and starting biting me, which freaked me out more, and round and round we go. It's much less than it used to be, but he stalked me all over the apartment last night for a while after Mr. K went to sleep. And when he does that I panic and don't know what to do. I've tried talking calmly to him, but it doesn't help.

Thanks for the encouragement, though, HM.

    Sorry for the threadjack, Jcat.

  9. my parents and I have been a dysfunctional family for 50 years. It is a hard struggle for me to deal with my anger and my depression. But I am doing it one day at a time. I'm so very glad that I saw the light and left them. now I can work on the person I want to be.

I still love them, but right now I can't be with them...

{{{Kilroy}}} {{{C&M}}} Of course you didn't threadjack, Kilroy. I'm so sorry you still feel nervous around Georgie, that's no fun.

  11. Thanks, Jcat. Not nervous right now, since poor Georgie is hiding under the futon, having had the bejeebers scared out of him by a big thunderclap/lightning bolt. Poor baby :(
